If ya not buring any oil, try this.
3- 5/30,
1- 10/40 weight.
Any oil brand (cheaper the better!)
AC Oil Filter.
I just finished rebuilding my 1985 S-10 Blazer, 2.8 top end.
MY ENGINE IS SPOTLESS INSIDE!
Only cylinder bore slop (from the milage, NO SCORING PISTON WALLS), but I got 211,500 miles on that engine.
My head gasket finally went, I swapped on left over MPFI Heads onto the 211,500 block.
My compression is about 80-100 all cylinders.
That is exactly what I have always done to my truck, since 1989 (starting at 70,000 miles of ownership).
Run the crap outta that engine. Anythign ya do to make it stronger, makes them last longer!
Except overheating!
Change radiator fluid, every year, too!!!

well ked I agree with everything but the "any oil, cheaper is better" comment. I will not use anything but full synthetic in my ar now after seeing and feel the results of this. Better MPG about 2 overall and alot easier starting and more stable pressure at all RPM's.

Poor milage huh.. look at the plugs, wires, cap and rotor. check cylinder pressure and check for vacuum leaks. If ya have a comp controlling the mix check the Ox sensor. Check exhaust back pressure at the oc fitting too... it'll show if you have a clogged cat. ANOTHER BIG THING TO CHECK IS TIRE PRESSURE!. It does make a differance. It may not hurt to run a can or 2 of Sea Foam(it's a name brand) cleaner in your gas to clean the lines and injectors. And might as well buy another couple cans and hook them to the small vacuum line on the throttle body and suck them through your intake and clean it out some. Umm... can't think of anything else off hand right now it's almost 2 AM and I am tired.

And I forgot to say that I get over 30MPG with my car. I go around 325-350 Miles per tank. On straight Highway for a good distance(like 300 plus miles) I get over 40. 92 RS 3.1 with 115k

Well, I just got back from Ocean City, Maryland, and I'll see if I can work those mileage #'s out tonight. They're not 100% highway... the trip down also included "local" mileage, and the trip back includes 2 hours of stopped traffic.

Well, I still haven't fueled up after coming back from Maryland, so I don't know what the mileage on the return trip is- it's probably down to 8 or so with the traffic we hit coming back, and all the local driving I've done since Sunday! https://www.thirdgen.org/messgboard/biggrin.gif

But, mileage from Central NJ to Ocean City, MD was 211.4. I drove 34.1 miles inside Ocean City. I filled up with gas when I left NJ and when I left MD.. the fillup in MD was 10.736 gallons (of 93 octane, for $19). That gives me a MPG of 22.9 ... not too shabby!

i know this thread is old but it reminded me of my youth. I remember when 93 Octance was only $1.75/gallon. *sighs*

pizza_guy 09-13-2006 03:29 PM

$1.75:eek:

I'm only 23 and I remeber when gas was below a dollar a gallon. Unfortunatly, I didn't get a license until it was $1.25.

I wish our petrol prices were as low as yours, in england we currently pay 87.9 pence per litre,it was around 99.9 pence per litre until recently, hence only having a 2.8 v6 although I hear from some people the v8's are not much worse.

I must say I'm jealous. I get 360-380 miles per tank, but it comes out to about 29mpg for me.
