how does power antenna trim peice connect to mast?

So this is an 85. The car had a power antenna but it was broken and i got rid of it 14 or 15 years ago. Now i want to add it back for the clean look and all the searching i have done indicate they are the same for 82-92, however, this one (from an 83) has a different mounting bracket and i see nowhere the upper trim peice can screw into the top of the mast. What does the trim piece that goes down from the top (outside) of the fender screw into, the mast? It is threaded, so i assume that is what it would attach to, or is there another piece underneath that i might be missing?

There is a male threaded trim piece that threads into the female threads on te antenna mount. It is power antenna specific. In between those two is a washer that is at an angle to fit on the fender

I know the trim peice you are referring to but i don't know where it connects. THis is the piece your talking about:

Now look at this antenna from an 83. The bracket appears different and there is a top bracket thta goes above the height of the antenna mast which doesn't make any sense. But look in the tube, where would that bezel/nut screw into when it is not threaded??

That main unit is different than mine or any others I've seen. That msle piece is supposed to thread into the top of that main unit. That bracket at the top is strange. Sorry I can't be of help

That's what I'm thinking....weird. This came off an 83 but every advertisement I have seen shows 82-92 grouped together for power antenna stuff. However, my parts manual for the firebird generation shows that the parts numbers actually changed several times through the generation (must be small changes I guess).
