First post...long time lurker. My 89 has been parked since November of 2000, dont worry, its been in a heated, climate controlled garage...she's mint. 55,000 miles on it. Kenny Brown SFC's..
Anywho, been having the itch to take it back out... Years ago I picked up a set of 91/92 Z wheels...needed refinishing but no nicks/damage. Brought em to a local powder coater & blaster with instructions to NOT Blast the machined surface as I was gonna re-polish them to match the NOS Centercaps I got for em. Last week I get a call to come get em and when I arrive they are totally blasted...did a great job but would leave me with TONS Of sanding & polishing. Not gonna knock the guy, it was an honest mistake and he's gonna make it right. Now I dont know what to do....got some powder sample chips...
A) have him powder the "cast" portions like OEM, and I get to work sanding & polishing the face once he's done powdering the rest.
B) Powder the WHOLE Face of the wheel a "machined silver" color...looks close...not perfect...but maintenance free.
C) Powder the whole face a gunmetal gray. Get some liquid paint mixed to match to shoot the older centercaps I have.
C struck me as cool, but gunmetal seems flavor of the day...I dont know..
Both my 91's have that z28 style wheel. I would have the wheel powder coated gunmetal and keep the shiny center caps natural as they are because I think that would pop. If I didn't like the look then I'd get the center caps coated as mentioned above.
I like the gunmetal wheel shiny cap look and have this on my 72 vette.

Funny you said that...went to the Super Chevy show @ Epping NH yesterday and I saw a similar concept on a car there...certainly gave me pause... Still not too late for me to do it...as the Powder Co is running behind...this is the gray I ordered..
