Really not, I'm a truck driver ( out on the road as I speak ), & I don't take much time off. It's still under the car & I need to dig out the old 9 bolt to sling back under it. So let me know

i think it's a great deal and would love to own it myself just for historical purposes, but i have no money. i think chucky wants a 9", so he's going to save his money for now. we really appreciate the over.

No problem, just thought I'd offer it to y'all first, before I put it on eBay.
Chucky is aware that the 9" takes more power to turn? The trade off (imo ), is ease of swapping out gear sets & it's as close to bullet proof as ya can get. My plans are for a serious procharged sbc. ..

it will be a stock bottom end 5.7, so 346". for now. this with stock heads and the cam i had spec'd with a better converter should be 10.80 capable, which is more than enough to break the 10 bolt.

I'll be interested in how you go about the LS build. That's my eventual route once I squeeze the most out of the current Gen 1.

Hey Chuck and Matt, just got done reading that excellent write up of your 2015 build. I am about to do a similar build with my 82 Z28. I got lots of great info out of your hard work in the snow. Thanks for that.
I too am in MD and run Street class at Mason Dixon and 75-80 in the past. I believe I ran that purple and black Bird at Mason Dixon last fall.

make sure you come say hi the next time you see us out there. Chucky runs street and mod/pro (depending on ihra/nhra) whenever we go out there so it's very possible you did run him!
progress is stalled on this car till i get a few projects done with mine. we intend to come out swinging in 2016 with both cars. we'll see how far we get, lol!

This has been a 1 step forward, 2 steps back kind of build this spring. here's chucky putting the cylinder heads on the motor 2 weekends ago:

and here's the engine as of yesterday morning:

and the reason i pulled heads off:

that little bastard managed to fall down an oil return hole in the head and landed between the lifters for number 4 cylinder. we were putting new springs on with the heads on the engine and had all sorts of air leaking past the intake valves, so we're going to have the heads cleaned and a valve job done by a local buddy, then assembled with the new springs and move forward from there. such is hotrodding!

and here's the engine as of yesterday morning:

the cylinder heads are back on chucky's engine. i need to measure for pushrod length yet. may try to do that this week and get him to order a set. i know i know, this is taking waaaaay too long, lol!

Sometimes, it just takes time. We often forget just how expensive & time consuming our hobby is. Hell, life is so expensive as it is.
The engine is looking good, and ya know that if y'all get in a hurry. .. the odds get increasingly higher that you'll forget something.
I'd rather it take longer & run solid, than it get hurried and fail.

i agree. i have several irons in the fire this year too. it's the thick of our busy season at work, and i'm also doing steering shafts as well as lots of stuff for my folks (they own MotorManiaTV). not to mention my car needing to be at the track all the time, as well as the side jobs that come through. i've got a pretty extensive side job at the house right now, i've got another roll bar install at the beginning of next month, and i'm headed to my parents in mid july to pick up my mom's 84 firebird that's getting an ls swap. i feel like i'm going 180 mph every single day.

this weekend i went to my cousin's place to do some work on his 87 gta bracket racer.
all loaded up ready for whatever the weekend may throw our way

getting ready saturday night at his place

ran into some stupid issues with some misinformation that you could use a gm crank spacer with an ls1 f-body flexplate to fit a th400. well that just isn't the case. we didn't realize till the engine and trans were in the car, but got it figured out. this flexplate and spacer configuration would either bottom out the spacer on the pilot snout (if configured crankshaft, flexplate, then spacer) or the flexplate would be up against the converter with 1/4" gap around the bellhousing to engine (if configured crankshaft, spacer, then flexplate). a little more research showed if we used a flat 6.0 flexplate the issue should go away. well Advance carries ATP flexplates. it so happens that part number Z-270 is a flexplate, spacer, and bolts!
the flexplate is dual bolt pattern too for use with 4l60e or 4l80e so you don't have to modify the bolt pattern to bolt it up to the old gen 1 converter.
we got a good bit done, but still have more to go. here it is before i left.

I went back to chucky's this weekend. I had to work yesterday morning so i didn't get down there till around 3pm yesterday afternoon. we worked all afternoon, evening, night, and into the morning. at 3 am we fired the car up
there are still several issues to address, but we made huge strides yesterday. i got home at 6:30 this morning. been a while since pulling an all night-er. it felt good 


will get a video up at some point. we are having a meet at Mason Dixon Dragway on the 5th of november with my group the mu11et militia. i'm hoping we are able to get this car to the track for that.

over the course of the last 6 weeks, the car made it's way back up too my place. we finished the last little odds and ends and got it running. yesterday we took it to mason dixon raceway for my annual fall Mu11et Militia meet that i put on every year. it was a great time! i had it turned down for first pass, which yielded an 11.43 @ 122. it stuttered when it went into 2nd gear so i knew we had a little work to do. i found the rear float was high so i adjusted that and i hopped in the car. 2nd pass was an 11.13 @ 122. we turned up the shift point and added 4* of timing and i put chucky back in the car, and was rewarded with an 11.006 @ 125. i gave it another 500 rpm shift point and bam, 10.96 @ 126.7mph. the car needs more converter truthfully, and could use more gear as well. no weights as the scales were broken still. for a racetrack that charges $5 for each person to scale their car, they sure do stay broken
i might have to say something to management about that.

no. dual 3" into single 4" dumping at axle. has 3" mini bullets at collectors then a single 4" bullet at the axle. it's actually really tame.

it's the exacty same system that was on my car. i went 10.20's at 134 at more weight in mineshaft air a couple years ago through it, lol.
