Thanks, subroc. Seems like there is still a lot left to work on, but at least it is presentable. We keep plugging away on it

Re: Felicity's 1984 Camaro Z28 HO

We had been having trouble with the car acting like it's vapor locking, could not get it to highway speed. Few months ago I cleaned the vent filter and changed the fuel filter for the third time. Thought I had it working good as she just had it on the highway couple weeks ago with no problem. This week she mentioned it acted like it wanted to die so she pulled over and let it warm up a little and finished driving to school. It happened again but this time it died on her. Started right up and drove fine after that. So Thursday night we took it out on the highway it would not get up to speed. Drove great around town. So I tried it again out on the highway. This time it died and I could barely get it started. Then it drove terrible the rest of the way home, died again in town and I was not sure I could get it started. Replaced the fuel filter again and it pulled hard to 70 mph.

Cut open the filter.

Re: Felicity's 1984 Camaro Z28 HO

Yea dropping the tank is a def if your getting that much crap in the fuel filters. While your in there you should replace the pump with a new one as well. Id recommend just sticking with a AC delco pump. I have one in my camaro and its supporting my 355 tpi. Your pump would be less powerful however since its feeding a carb and not FI.

i dont think they have an electric fuel pump probably the stock type on the side of the block. youd need a regulator with a carb even if it were a tbi pump.

Re: Felicity's 1984 Camaro Z28 HO

Yes she is still in high school and has one more week as a junior. She has been helping as much as she can on it, and let me tell you she is a great help and pleasant to work with. If I am fighting something and she shows up to help, it seems to just fall into place.

Thank God for a friend with a hoist and more know how than I have. I think I need to take it back to exhaust shop and have him install a place to disconnect it so the muffler can come out. That was a nightmare getting tank out and back in with it in the way.

Got tank and sending unit out, both were too far gone. Here is the sending unit.

It is a HO engine so I guess it came with a 2-5 psi in tank pusher pump (since it had one and with third gen org info). It was not even connected to the internal pump which I'm sure was not working and the sock was full of rust. Of course 84 sending unit is not available, so I found an 85-92 sending unit from OReilly along with a tank (both Spectraand can't believe they had in stock although I had to drive to Billings 15 miles away to get). First he gave me the in tank pump for an 88. But I got to thinking about it and took it back to see what the psi is and it was 12-13. I then picked up an 84 HO in tank pump. That was going to require modification and decided to leave it out (we did extend the pick up). If it develops issues with vapor locking, we will install an external pump.

Gas gauge now works, although we put in about 10 gallons and it only registered 1/2 full. Will need to fill it and see where it registers. But at least its moving.

Clouds were threatening and since her dads car is temporarily vacated the garage so I pulled it in next to her mom's.

two good looking cars, can i say though using something like a headlight restoration kit on the tail lights would get rid of their cloudyness, it worked great for mine

Re: Felicity's 1984 Camaro Z28 HO

Thought I would add some minor progess we done the last few months.

She is attending college about 3 1/2 hours from home. 1st year she left her car at home. Last year she was required to go the the hospital a few times (nursing program) so she pretty much needed a car there. We took her Camaro and got 21 mpg on interstate. Car ran great all first semester. We however were not comfortable with here maneuvering the hills she had to to get to the hospital on icy roads (although she did fine when she had to). In December I bought an 04 Impala for her to take back and so she left it home second semester.

Anyway I replaced the air ducts with some adequate replacements off ebay (through 3rd gen info).

Replace the shifter ****

Replace the fender emblems

It has had an oil leak so we replaced the drivers side valve cover gasket a month or so ago. Just couple Saturdays ago we decided to tackle the passenger side.

Felicity helped me until she had to go to work at 2PM. It only took 8 hours to do! Well in my defense, had trip to parts store and lunch was in there. Then I just can't tear something apart and put dirty, rusted and unpainted parts back together. Lots of clean up and painting needed done.

I have not attempted a passenger side valve cover yet. Looks like fun.

Those look nice. A good substitute for the unobtainable originals. What are they listed as fitting, or listed as on ebay?

I know that feeling. Seems like I spend more time with a spray can or gun in hand lately than any actual tool. Car looks sweet. Keep up the good work.

I was able to play some yesterday.

Replaced door lock switch. I had tried earlier to replace with a Doorman brand but it was too hard to operate. I replaced with AC Delco.

Replaced rear speakers

Pulled dash to replace front speakers

Re: Felicity's 1984 Camaro Z28 HO

Thanks everyone for the encouragement.

I have had parts waiting to be installed for quite awhile. After two years in college for nursing, Felicity was able to take and pass the CNA test. She had two summer jobs set up when she came home. Her nursing job wanted her 40 plus hours a week and her lifeguard job started jerking her around so she informed them she was not going to work for them (they were not happy with her). She ended up working 50 to 60 hours a week all summer, most of them evening shifts which conflicted with my schedule.

She has returned to college and I decided to play with it on labor day. Still a lot of misc stuff I want to do.

I have not been able to locate a decent replacement rear wiper/wash switch.

I had it copied and a sticker made

Not real happy with how it turned out, but it looks better than it was. I may redo it see if I can get it to look better.

I think the part you bought was a AD-42B... They, like the OEM ones, are now long gone.

The AD-14B looks more like a LG4/TBI Duct.

Oh and your 84 is drop dead gorgeous! Not many came optioned like that...A very rare duck.

I noticed that you had a power seat with that little plastic trim cover for the power seat switch. I have been looking for that piece forever.

It doesn't look that good. All faded and looks dirty. I need to figure out how to refinish it (called flocking I think). Or maybe clean and just repaint???

Re: Felicity's 1984 Camaro Z28 HO

I was wondering if you could do me a huge favor could you take some up close pictures of the power seat switch plastic cover, and maybe even take it off so I can see how it's mounted/ see the part number that's most likely molded on to the inside of the plastic. It would be a huge help with my recaro seat project. You can reach me faster at 3312059916

Good looking car. I like seeing a nice clean job done. Makes me miss the days before I went off the deep end modifying my car when it was much simpler, cheaper, and honestly more fun to work on.

Thanks.

I think I wish I could do this "Best 1/8 mile pass: 5.44 at 132 mph, Best 1/4 mile pass: 8.35 at 170 mph
Best with the stock bottom end 5.3: 8.86 at 161MP"

Haven't done much for awhile. My daughter washed it couple weeks ago, and I noticed the strips were oxidizing. I washed it and tried using rubbing compound. That did not help so I used Meguiar's Ultimate Polish which seemed to take it out. I followed up by waxing it.

I was wondering how this car was doing for you. Glad to see it's still rolling along.

I have bought some parts to install (shocks, HuMount, etc) but we haven't had time to work on it together. Last summer she worked 40-60 hrs a week and her days off were never same as I had. She drove it to work all the time. This year she graduated college and soon as she got home, back to work 12 to 16 hr shifts. She took the last week of June off to study for her test. Test was suppose to take 2-6 hours and she breezed through it in 2 with a bathroom/snack break. Since she passed her RN test, the company she worked for could no longer employ her as a CNA . She starts as an RN on the 30th of July. She is suppose to work 3 - 12 hour shifts in the emergency room. Hopefully we will get some time to work on it together.

Wow...congratulations to her!

Hope you guys get some time to work on it together. My son has been home from school all summer, and he too is working a lot, night. So we hardly see each other, let alone work on his truck.

Re: Felicity's 1984 Camaro Z28 HO

Few weeks ago we got to spend some time together.

I decided Saturday to wash the black off we have been getting from the forest fires. Decided to start trying to get under the hood cleaned out. Didn't turn out the best but it is some better.

I have a new overflow bottle and I need to buy a new washer.

Really nice looking car. I miss the 86 Iroc I built with my dad for high school. Keep that thing forever.
