History / OriginalityGot a question about 1982-1992 Camaro or Firebird history? Have a question about original parts, options, RPO codes, when something was available, or how to document your car? Those questions, answers, and much more!
Yes its better than non G92 cars but is also the same used in the 350 cars.
Looks like the 88-89 350 auto/305 tpi 5speed cars (w performance) still have a bit bigger cam than the rest.
I'd take any cam specifications with a grain of salt, especially without the original source being disclosed. That said, most of what I've seen suggests that the late MAF cars got the "biggest" cam. I'm not sure how much the specs really matter though, since they only tell so much.

It's an older photo, but representative. Replace the gunmetal 91 Firebird on the end with a dark metallic green 91 Firebird, and it could almost pass for current.

Only need 3 more to drive a different one every day of the week
Check your SPID tag for the RPO 1AZ - that denotes a sold (customer) order and would give the car a higher priority in production. My 87 was a sold car (me) and has that code - my 91 was special ordered by a female Delco executive in Rochester and she wanted the leather seats and rear defroster (and since she didn't need A/C in Rochester NY got the 1LE).
You may also want to look for the build sheet in your car - if it is a Norwood built car it is likely under the carpet on the floor in the back seat.
It does have the 1AZ code...sweet learned something new
So this is something I haven't seen before - the cam chart in the link that Jeremy posted up.
Am I reading this correctly that the 90-92 G92/1LE cars got an even better camshaft?
Opening up the 1990 GM Tech Sheets from the Player's series <insert church music> ...
1. Engine
- New Speed density calibration eliminates mass-flow sensor (lower cost, better reliability & air flow)
- Slightly milder camshaft improves idle quality and offsets increase air flow due to speed density calibration, giving same power as 1989.
2. New calibration prom to match engine changes provides similar characteristics to previous years, except that shift-light raised to 5,200 RPM.
From earlier in the thread - how did these cars ever get 26 MPG on the highway?? With my stock 305 I was getting 12 MPG city and 15 MPG highway from the time I bought it until I swapped out the motor. With the new 305 I get more like 16 city and 19/20 highway.

If your car is running correctly and you hold it to 55 MPH, you'll get great highway mileage.

This is true!! I got nearly 30 mpg with my 5.0 TPI 5 speed Iroc on a trip to Indy for a car show years ago. I think I had my cruise set around 55-60 the whole way. I thought my gas gauge quit working since it was moving so little.
