So I just installed an Edelbrock carburetor performer series 1406... well doesn't fit at all. What have others done? I guess I can get another hood but I find the hoods I've seen so far to be very ugly. Can I cut out a hole for the air filter to poke out of the hood? Also does anyone have any templates for a hood shaker fitment for trans am 87? I would love to have a hood shaker so I can make this thing fit plus I love the look. If anyone has any suggestions of what I should do and how I should do it then please let me know. Thanks.

 

Use a drop base air cleaner

 

Not to be a dick or anything, but I told you a week ago that carb isn't going to work at all well. Here we are in a third thread trying to find solutions to a problem created by choosing the wrong carb.

The easiest solution is to throw that carb away and get another Qjet that'll fit your car.

What other people in your situation often do, is start hacking holes in the hood, and screwing things up until the car is so severely hosed, that they park it behind a tool shed and let it rot into the ground. Craigslist is FULL of mucked up thirdgens that the owner's insisted on modifying without researching what would or wouldn't work well.

 

I agree get a different hood, only reason to have air cleaners out side of the hood is on a drag car. If it rains your screwed, if it snows your screwed. Also have to agree that carb is junk and won't ever work correctly, so to avoid issues swap er out!

That carb definitely isn't worth the hole in the hood.

 

Alright I ordered the part before my first post. Yeah, I am new to this and besides this site don't know anyone with car experience. I'm just gonna order a remanufactured Rochester quadrajet... Anyone know of a good place to get them that is reliable? Thanks.
