Hey everyone,

I'm currently restoring a genuine 1989 Trans Am GTA (Y84, L98 5.7L TPI, 700R4 automatic). I have put a good bit into it to get it to the point where it turns on and moves under its own power, but it is definitely not road-ready yet and has some unknowns I need professional help with.

Mainly, the 700R4 transmission needs internal work—it won't shift into Overdrive (4th gear), and the Parking pawl isn't engaging properly (it clicks and rolls backwards on inclines).



I am located in Clover, SC (29710), right near Rock Hill and Gastonia.

Can anyone recommend an honest, reasonable independent mechanic or transmission builder in the York County / South Charlotte area who knows these third-gen TPI cars and won't charge an arm and a leg for diagnostics?
