Anybody know how old a car has to be in SC before it doesn't need a title? Or tried to get a replacement title issued for an abandoned vehicle? A friend has an 86 or 87 Fiero 2m6 Fiero that he'll sell me REALLY cheap ($100), and it will probably be easier for him to pursue this in SC, then sign over the title to me, since GA requires all vehicles newer than 85 to have a title.

Unless I'm out to lunch, anything that you put tags on and drive on public roads HAS to have a title. How else can you put something on the road legally? If you didn't need a title, I'd just drive a way souped-up golf cart to work.

I do know that there is a cutoff for emissions, seatbelts and stuff like that.

Most states (at least in the south) only require titles so far back (GA the cutoff is 1985)...just a bill of sale. In fact, on stuff like that, they won't usually even issue replacement titles. I have heard Alabama is even more lax. You still have to register/tag the vehicle, of course, but they're not so worried about titles on cars that according to their valuation scale are only worht a few hundred $$$.
