What does the torque arm do?

Help me out here. I just got through replacing my lower control arms, and while under the car I started poking around, trying to visualize how everything works together. The LCA's keep the rear mounted to the rear subframes. The panhard bar seems to keep the rear centered laterally in the car. I'm having a hard time seeing what the torque arm does. Can anybody shine a little light on the situation?

Imagine where the LCAs bolt to the rearend as being a pivot point, the TQ arm prevents the rear from rotating forward/back on that axis

Ohhhhhhh, now I see. Funny how I never thought about the differential rotating. Live and learn I guess.
