I have an 1983 trans am 5.0 ws6 that I completely rebuilt the motor, in the process removed about 200lbs from the front of the car. Now The front ride height is about 2-2 1/2 inches above stock height and the front suspension is extremely stiff and has a lot of under-steer. I obviously need lowering springs but I believe softer struts will also be needed, anyone have a specific part number for struts that they've used for a similar setup as mine ?

Thanks,Eric

Re: Front suspension Question
its not the struts .. its the fact that you removed that 200 lbs . you could use v-6 springs possibly to get the ride height back .

the amount of spring removed will barely increase the rate, and what rate it does create the car will need if its a bit lower.

I wouldn't bother with v6 springs, cut the ones you have a bit and be done with it.

Re: Front suspension Question
it costs nothing but time to cut a coil or two out of the springs you have.. if you don't like it, then get different springs.

keep in mind that chopping the springs can add a LOT of spring rate. i haven't really tried calculating it since i did my Nova way back in the winter of '02/'03, but just chopping a couple of coils off the springs i used in that car added a couple hundred pounds of spring rate based on the calculations i found online at the time..

Re: Front suspension Question
The rate change isn't that much I ran crappy sportlines which are around 650-700 up to 1000 up front yes its firm ride but not unbearable and very comparable too today European tuned suspension

And as said above lower needs higher spring rate
