I was interested in getting a set of Baer brakes all around. But I heard since the front brakes do most of the braking...the front brakes should be bigger than the back. I was WANTING to get 13" or 14" brakes all around...and then use a porportioning valve to give a little bit more stopping power on the fronts. Can I do this or do I have to get 13" in front and 12" in back...or 14" in front and 13" in back.

Nope, they don't. But it is better if they are. 14" brakes? What kind of driving are you doing that would require 14" rotors?

The Baer kits typically come in 12" or 13" for the front and IIRC 12" for the rear.

The GM factory issue for our cars was 10.5" all around up until '89. From then on it was 10.5" in front and 11.5" in the rear. The 1LE equipped cars received 12" fronts with the 11.5" rears. This info. of course applies to 4 wheel disc cars.

It'll mostly be for looks...im getting 17" rims in the front and 18" in the back...so I went the brakes to fill in the empty space.

If you are doing it mainly for looks, you could go with 14" front and back or even 13" up front and 14" in back. That might match your 17/18" rim combo as far as looks go. Just set the valve to where most of the stopping power comes from the front and you should be set regardless what size brakes are in the rear. Those Baer brakes will surely stop a lot better than our factory ones.

However you look at it. The front brakes require more stopping force. If you don't have this then you risk having an accident when you must panic stop. In any kind of performance driving the brakes would also fade more quickly.
