I need to get a new set of front tires for my firebird. A guy at a tire place said that he'd sell me 2 brand new 245 45R 16's for a really good price, $100, but he didn't have any 50R in stock. Would these fit on stock rims, and would it adversley affect the car in any way? I would still be running 50R's in the rear.

tire sizes are like this. 245 is the width in mm.....the 50 is percent of the width that is the height of the sidewall...50r is 50% of 245 and the last size is the rim size. the 245/45/16 tires are just a lower profile which is much better for handling but has less ride quality. i would say if you getting a good price go for them...besides ride quality wasnt your first concern because you bought an f-body.

IMHO shorter sidewall tires in the front gives the car a better stance and rake. I have 225/60/15 front and 235/60/15 rear. Which isn't much difference but it looks good. For your instance the difference in diameter is about an inch just like mine.
