Ever since I swapped engines in my '84, I've been having a terrible time with the alternator and AC belts slipping. They need to be tightening much tighter than the AIR and PS pump belts, which stretches them out pretty quickly. For example, the original alternator belt was stretched to the point that I could not tighten it enough to keep it from slipping.

Since my car is kind of cobbled together, does anyone think it could be pulley alignment? And if so, how would I check that best? Would a long ruler and a protractor work?

Yes, you should check pulley alignment with
a straightedge. Your alternator pulley may
also be worn out. I had this problem with my
'83Z28 until I put a F**d pulley on my alter-
nator. The slightly larger diameter gripped
more belt and the squealing stopped.
