hello

Let me fill you in. Im 16, and this is my first build. I am also the first in my family to mod a tpi.
My old 350 tpi [1989] did high 14s with a full tank, 2 people and bad tires.
I definently want 13s if not better. I want to take the vortecs to their limit.

This is what i have
92 roller block bored .030"
speed-pro hypereutectic pistons with coated skirt
eagle I-beam connecting rods
comp cams camshaft
-224/230 duration @ .050
-503/510 valve lift
-112 deg. lobe separation
comp springs to match
comp double roller timing set
comp pushrods
1.5 roller rockers
new gm lifters
new vortec heads, casting 12558062
sdpc vortec baseplate & egr tube
accell 30# injectors

i bought this motor with the above. It didnt run long [without tune] and ran very rich
Im gonna stick with TPI for sure.. dont even suggest a change.

Im an not sure about the injectors and that cam either.

OTHERS MODS IN MY PLAN
mega port the plenum and some slp runners to try and get more top end power.

exhaust-hedmen longtubes [AIR delete] to a 2 1/4 y pipe around the tranny into a 3" a cat and a hooker aerochamber.[custom front to back]

loose the factory air snorkal and make a cold air intake

rebulid the tranny [vette servo, and bigger stall?]

by the way my rear end is an AUSSIE POSI 2.77

IVE SEARCHED MY BRAINS OUT. please help a young guy out and tell me what i need or what i need to change in my plan, id like to copy someones setup that works really well.

Thanks for your time

Lee

sounds good. just need the vortec heads setup for that cam's lift.

i would look into porting the base and gettin some slp runners... possibly siamese those a few inches... that cam will want to breath above 5000rpms for sure..where TPI is now dying. lol porting will help keep power up.

sounds like a good combo. need a tune tho for sure to handle that cam and injectors, else it will probly run rich like u've said. theres no excuse that that car shouldnt run in the high 12's once it is tuned. my 89 is 13.6's with 13.5's in the near future once i solve a minor traction issue and i only got exhaust mods.

oh and u need a converter. go with 2800 stall. 2.77 gears kinda hurts you... you want atleast 3.27's but you can get by with 2.77s with teh 2800 stall. just might be alittle slow off the line. i ran 13.89 on a cool day on street tires with 2800 stall and 2.77's. slicks and 3.27's i went 13.79 in the heat but should have been low 13.7's for sure. 3.42's are best and i went 13.6's

i also beleive that the heads are machined for more lift. I was also considering a possible rear end upgrade if i can break the 9 bolt [unlikely]. I wasnt sure if my throttle body would start becoming a restriction at these speeds or not.
I also would like some feedback on my exhaust plan. Would it be better to do longtubes into a 2 1/4 y pipe then 3" or midlengths into a 2 1/2 y pipe [in factory routing] to a 3".

thanks for the info so far.

i'd like to keep the y pipe as wide as possible. i have hooker shorties and y pipe and i do believe its a 2.5inch y pipe into a 3inch. a good single 3 inch should be plenty for that car as long as u use a nice muffler that flows.

I too am a teenager on his first car. If you are interested in more TPI mods buy "TPIS(Tuned Port Injection Specialties) Insider Hints" book available through JEGs on ebay. It talks allot about stuff like air filters, air foils, porting the plenum, runners and AFPRs(Adjustable Fuel Pressure Regulators) and has dyno tests to back it up

hey guys.. what do you think, Would a 3" air intake to a K&N be sufficient on this motor or would i need to go to 3.5"?
