Hello all I just picked up a 84 z28 with a crate 350 and a 700r4 transmission. It has a problem after driving minute or so if you hit the gas it stalls like its running out of gas. I pull over and it will idle ok then let me go again for a minute. If I try to keep going it will die completely and I have to let it sit for about 2 mins before it will start again. The guy I got it from said the TV cable needed to be replaced with the proper one and adjusted apparently the one on it is too long. I was able to adjust the one on it and it seems like it might be shifting ok now so I was thinking it may be a carb or fuel pump problem. Could the TV cable do this? I thought it would just make it shift wierd not stall. I have pulled the card apart and replaced the float and gaskets but it didnt seem to change anything. It has a rochester quadrajet on it and I have been debating just tossing it and replacing it with an edelbrock.

An Edelbrock would be a serious downgrade and more headaches than you've got now. Plus, it wouldn't solve this problem.
You either have a fuel starvation problem (my guess), or a weak ignition component (common, but doesn't sound exactly like what you've got going on).
It's not the TV cable (but putting an Edelbrock carb would cause a TV problem).
That car should have an in-tank electric pump and an engine-mounted mechanical pump. The electric is probably the culprit. Verify you don't have a fuse or relay problem first. If those check out, start searching the Board for how to drop the fuel tank.

Thanks for the tips. I found the problem and you were exactly right.. it was fuel starvation. The dang fuel filter was clogged apparently. It looked ok but I changed it out and the problem went away. Seems to be shifting just fine too so I think the TV cable may be alright. Is there an obvious way to know if the TV cable is out of adjustment? I have read I will toast my tranny if I run it while out.
I am so happy just to have this thing running again.
