okay so what i want to do is build up my lg4 thats in my 84 camaro to make it more fun on the road, i am KEEPING THE 305 BLOCK i do not want to build a 350 at the current time I want to build a 305 . I am aiming for at least 250hp and 300+ftlb to the rear wheels.
heres what i plan to do
heads: trick flow super 23 175's with 175cc intake runners and 56cc combustion chamber also considering 180cc engine quest cylinder heads milled to have a 60cc combustion chamber but i cant find them for sale anywhere
cam: COMP XE268H flat-tappet hydraulic cam 224/230 duration@0.05 inch
and 0.4770/.480 inch lift on a 110 degree lobe seperation
intake: vortec styled edelbrock air gap
carb: 600cfm 4 barrel edelbrock carb ( because i already have it and its almost new)
do you think i can reach my goals with this set up? Any ideas on how this will perform ? any suggestions on how to make this setup better or cheaper?
I am running a 700r4 transmission and my rear gears are 3.73 also i'm going to run hooker headers and some kind of good flowing exhaust system

What you want to do isn't out of the realm of possibility. I think you will be close to what you want with that set up. I have no experience with the trick flow heads so someone else will have to step up.
Do you care about emissions? If not, it'll be easier to get what you want.

I'll move this part up top before responding.
If you stick with ported modified stock heads, you can go with a Performer RPM spreadbore intake and keep the stock q-jet and distributor. To say nothing about what you'll have to do to make an aftermarket carb work properly with a TH700 transmission.
Right there are my suggestions for cheaper/better. Stock heads with the noted work, noted intake manifold, and retain the factory q-jet.
Being a Canadian-delivered (I assume) LG4, you probably have the non-CC version of the q-jet, but that doesn't change anything (other than not needing a different distributor or provide TCC lock-up function if you go with an aftermarket carb).

Lot's of $'s for the stated goal. But, you didn't mention budget being an issue, so you can either do one of those heads, or put 1.94/1.60" valves in your factory heads, give them a basic port/bowl clean-up, new springs/retainers, and go.Originally Posted by 84z28camaro16

I'll put these two together. If you are going with Vortec-style heads, you will need a Vortec-style intake, which limits your choices. Regardless, I would never recommend an Edelbrock carb for anything other than getting a car that is missing the carb running so you can sell the car.Originally Posted by 84z28camaro16

Thanks this info is really helpfull. So if i stick with the stock heads will i have to increase the port size or just a clean everything. Also what intake would you recomend for these stock heads.also what kind of hp numbers are we looking at with these heads? Thanks

if it were me , i would go with a set of 185cc performer heads OR the ESTREET heads i have that made almost 400hp in a 350 BUT , in a 305 i could almost see a 305 making about 290 with these?
