Hey gang - 88 TPI GTA

I found a large black hollow ball in the drivers fender below the battery. Some research on thirdgen didn't really provide a very "clear" answer ... So hoping someone can give a more concrete answer. When I located it the hose going into it had rotted and was no longer connected. My main question is: do I need it? Some people seem to say you do, others not. What exactly does this thing do? I got as far as understanding it has something to do with cruise control (amongst other things like power brakes???), but I don't use the cruise. Will I notice any problems if I remove it? (and please don't answer with the "well take it off and see if anything breaks" response). Thanks everyone

Re: Question about hollow ball in fender
yes, it's for the cruise control and no,you don't need it if you're not going to run the cruise. It has nothing to do with the brakes

Quote: you don't need it if you're not going to run the cruise.
But you do if you want your air vents to stay in the same position as it stores vac for them as well.
When you accel ,the engine vac drops;
without the vac stored in the ball, the vents will change position until vac comes back when you let off throttle

Just run a new vac line direct to the ball from the one way valve on the vac lines by the dist

Vac only affects vent position
