OK so how about a thread that takes us back to stupid mistakes that didn't seem stupid at the time.
Like the time I thought all rocker arms could just be tightened down to 20 ft lbs and be done with it. Hey where did all the compression go? Why are all the valves staying open all the time? Why are all my pushods bent? Why won't the engine start?

I remember back when I spent ALL my money on cars. Now I have neither that money nor the cars I spent it on.
I can also remember when I built cars up in stages instead of buying the part I really wanted. Cheaper to just buy what you want first thing. Example - don't buy a 10 bolt if you really want a 9". The money spent is just dust in the wind when you upgrade.

Hopefully FNFAL308 has money for ammo. I'm a M1A shooter myself.
I once soaked lifters in oil for 5 days, did the adjustment as per manual, the engies oil pressure made them act like solid lifters, no compression, after much cussing I loosened the rockers a turn or two & got it to start.
I knew a guy who forgot to put the flex plate on a used motor, he was near the end of the swap when he tried to install the torque converter bolts, I'm not naming any names Joe, oppps!

Oh to be young, have a new credit card, and a beater hot rod that needs new wheels. How much monthly payment can I afford at 22% interest? I woudn't be surprised if some of that $ owed is still in that debt consolidation 2nd mortgage 25 yrs later! Say it isn't so!

The money I spent 30 yrs ago was not on a credit card - I just waited for the paycheck to come in. Roller rockers this week, dist next, new cam, etc.
It sure seemed that parts were cheaper back then, but it may be that now with wife and kids there's just a LOT less to go around.
ex-x-fire Got more ammo than I can physically pickup much less carry, but there's never enough. Can you ever have enough cars either? Need a work car, hot rod, collector car, bug out vehicle, work truck. The wife doesnt get it. I now have a collector that I'm working on, a work car I'm working on and a dual purpose BOV/Work truck.
