Just destroyed him by about 10 cars. I have nothin but a k&n, some nice tires and a slightly tuned ignition as of now. He's got everything a 4 banger could get and I destroyed him. Thought you guys would appreciate that.

I have to disagree here. I'm not a honda or rice fan, but VW's are cool, and can be very quick! My best friend bought his wife a 01 New Beetle 1.8turbo auto. K&N, boost controller, and exhaust this car went high 14's. Last time we went to the midnight drags in Tulsa he murdered 4 hondas, some toyota POS, and a clean 72 Chevy SWB truck! I see alot more tuners than ricers in the VW crowd. I am aware that a stock 2.0 golf isn't very quick, but neither was the base motors in our cars.
89 Iroc-406, TFS heads, Vic Junior intake, 800 holley, TKO 5 speed, moser 12 bolt with 3:73's. Shooting for high 11's
97 Ext.cab Chevy 350, K&N FIPK kit, power programmer, Flows with no cats, 75 shot, 3:73 posi-14:85
67 VW camper bus-1600 DP electronic ign., dual solex carbs, header-high 19's

A turbocharged 1.8L Beetle (really light) with a mods like that only ran high 14's? sorry dude but that's not fast in my book, granted it's faster than 16.0 but still, high 14's are nothing to a Bone Stock 350 TPI car, so I'm not sure that qualifies as fast.

And still everytime I see one of those new Beetles one word comes to mind Herbie

Later, Garrett

Well no, there not that fast. But I figured some of you would appreciate the defeat anyway. BTW, the guy I was racing is my best friend who happens to be a cop. So no, we didn't get cited.... I was hoping it was the local 4th gen camaro cop pulling us over but no such luck.

I think VWs are cool too. They are about the only FWD cars that I actually want to drive. German companies like to tune cars to the most potential, which means adding simple bolt-ons won't improve performance a whole lot. With GM cars, only the most restrictive and cheapest parts are good enough for our cars so when we add a cam, filter, exhaust, there is a noticable difference. Old GM engines have lots of power than can be excavated.
