O.K. Call me paranoid but I have a problem.

You guys know me, I am crazy about my car, it's cleanliness, etc. Now, today my brother asked me if he can borrow his car. He's family, and I would feel bad saying no. So I gave it to him.

He told me he stalled a few times, hit some bump (scared me, but he said he just scraped something on the bottom or something, I don't know!!!) but whatever.

Now, when I got the car back I checked over everything and it looked okay. But I get paranoid and I look at everything and anything that could be wrong.

Now I noticed that when I downshift, something strange happens (but it may be normal, so this is why I'm asking). Right when I change down from any gear the car sort of vibrates a little bit as it changes the RPMs. It's a small vibration, nothing very big, but I can feel it through the steering wheel.

Is this normal? Because I don't think I had this before I leant him the car, but I may have, because I just looked at anything strange. I may have had this all the time. Once again, it just vibrates whenever I downshift from any gear to any gear, be it 3rd to 2nd, or 4th to 3rd. It just vibrates for a second as the RPMS change. This normal?

It's probably your exhaust doing a little dance as the back pressure changes. Have an experienced GM tech listen to it. Or Slade1 I'm paranoid about stuff like that as well.

no big deal
I think I know what you are talking about and I think it is just the T5 setup. They are light trannies and when downshifting they'll shake abit and sometimes the air pump kicks in at weird times too. Between it and the IAC at lower rpms the exhaust backpressure does weird things too.

If something is broken you'll know soon enough.

See what's pissing the hell out of me is the fact that I don't remember if I had this before I leant the car or not.

This is the only thing that's been on my mind for the past 24 hours, awake and sleeping.

Does your car vibrate a little when you downshift Palric?

Hey buddy we've all been there -- worrying about the car. Your car is basically sound and has low miles so relax, take it easy. If you don't want these kinds of worries in the future then it's simple don't lend out your car to anyone.

My tranny shakes sometimes. My rear end clunks sometimes. My suspension goes BANG over potholes. Mostly the noises are under deceleration and pretty normal stuff. This is my third 3rd gen so I ought to know by now. I think the torque arm design has alot ot do with it. But as we said earlier the exhaust does funny stuff too especially when gearing down hard and the air pump kicks in. It has a mind of it's own you end up getting pushed (IAC kicks in) as you are trying to stop or slow down.

How bad is this 'shake' or 'vibration' of yours ?

could be the exhaust
I would look there first I know my three inch exhaust has been the cause of alot of vibration.Get under the car and look at it and take a good look at the tranny mount and the crossmember. My crossmember had a bolt missing. Is the vibration getting worse or staying the same?Is the vibration there at all on acceleration or just deceleration?

It's only there on decceleration and it's only there once in a while.

What scared me more was when I got into my car today after work something felt weird. It's like when I pushed the gas pedal down, it didn't have any response for the first 3 millimeters.

Who knows, maybe I'm just insane and I get that way after somebody drives my car. But like my dad said today, family is more important... And I can't say no to my brother otherwise I'd feel guilty. But when I do lend him the car I feel crazy!
