woohoo! got through emissions with flying colors!
I changed t-stat, put on newish dual cats from a 91 car (thanks kevin), and pumped my tank with 99% isopropyl alcohol.
Results:
Idle:
HC ppm: before 144, after 25 (limit 200)
CO%: before 0.56, after 0.02 (limit 1)
40km/h:
HC ppm: before 94, after 20 (limit 55)
CO%: before 2.68, after 0.02 (limit 0.31)
NO ppm: before 785, after 82 (limit 612)
So, I'm quite happy about this...and I have a dual cat setup to boot. Apparently the 91-92 cars had different manifolds that were shorter, so the exhaust hangs a bit low right now. I don't know if I'm gonna just chop the pipes or try to find manifolds from a later model car...perhaps I should just get some performance headers while I'm at it...

Good work!
How much isopropyl alcohol did you use?
How much isopropyl alcohol did you use?
I put in 4L of it (8 bottles of the 500ml stuff at shoppers drug mart) into my tank when it was a bit under 1/8th full.

Does this "tip" do anything to the engine?
i don't think it has any significant effects on anything as long as it is done once in a blue moon (like to pass e-test lol). I hear it isn't particularly good for the fuel system, but as long as you put it in, run the e-test, then dilute it, there's no harm done.
