Alright, I've been searching and reading up on TPI. For the past year I've been running an 305 TBI, and now I've moved up to a 5.7 TPI 1987 motor.

I'm just having some diffuculty wondering about MAF and speed density and how the two work. I understand my car comes with the Mass Air Flow sensor, so what does this thing really do and what does it do as far as limiting or expanding modding?

Dunno if I just made sense or not

The MAF senses how much air is flowing through it, and tells the computer so.

The MAP on the other hand, senses the amount of vacum in the intake plennum. The computer then adjusts accordingly with pre-programmed fuel and spark tables.

Your MAF system is good to about 325 HP because of air flow
limitations of the MAF sensor after you remove the screens and
cut out the module cooling fins on the inside, which by the way
is not the best setup. The MAP system is not ideal either but you
can do more with prom burning to utilize larger cams and such
to get peak performance.

The MAP system is better suited to higher HP engines.

From everything I have read, the MAF sensor with the screens removed are supposed to flow 711 CFM of air, which is more than enough to support 400+ HP. I know people with carbs rated at 650 CFM of air & fuel flow making well beyond 325 HP.
