Hi guys I have a 1987 305 TPI engine that I am retrofitting with an LG4 computer controlled quadrajet setup, with full emissions components (cat, egr, thermac air cleaner housing, AIR, etc). The TPI block has the block off plate for a mechanical fuel pump. I took it off to find the pump pushrod hole is machined and ready for the pump pushrod. BUT does the stock 305 TPI cam have an eccentric lobe to drive a mechanical fuel pump or am I screwed and I have to get a low pressure elec. inline pump to run the carb? Thanks!
I'm looking at aftermarket GM TPI roller cams on Ebay and it looks like they have the eccentric lobe to run a mechanical fuel pump. Does the stock TPI cam have this too? If it does I AM IN BUSINESS!!!!
most have them do however i purchased an 89 tbi 350 from a caprice that was used for law enfocement that had no fuel pump lobe that motor ran hard with a tpi
It does.. What is interesting is that I have pulled an '89 L05 TBI motor from an '89 Caprice police interceptor, and its cam had the fuel pump eccentric as well.. You should be good to go..

note: it's a billet cam. you can't run a stock Gm pushrod. You have to run either the brass tipped one or the roller tipped one. The regular one will eat the cam.

Shagwell. Thank you! You just saved me a cam. I would have definitely assembled the motor with the pushrod I had left over from my 327 EFI conversion.
