I have an 86 IROC that acts like its not getting fuel. It started out just spitting and sputtering so I changed the fuel filter thinking that might fix the problem however it didn't. The timing has been set, had a tune up, new alternator, and new top gaskets. It now spits and sputters worse than before, it dies while I am driving, when I went to take off from a light I had the peddle all the way down and it did not want to go it almost died right there. Also it is idling too high it should be at the 15 mark but after you actually get it to move it reads between 20-25 and when driving it is around 30-35. It came back with the error code either 42 or 44 and depending on where I look these codes up at I get different things that they mean can anyone help? I am leaning more towards fuel pump going out but I don't know if it could be my injectors. Anyone have any suggestions?

I'm having the same problem. I borrowed a fuel pressure guage from Autozone and read 10 PSI at fuel rail. Changed the filter, no effect. The fuel pump is only a few months old, but seems the obvious problem. Any other ideas ? I also read on another post that the bosch pump is superior to OEM. $65 at Rockauto.

I have 42 psi at rail while idling. When it warms up it drops to 30psi and then 20psi. I installed new fuel filter and no change. I put shields on fuel lines anywhere near exhaust in case the fuel is getting too hot, and no change. On wednesday I am removing the tank and installing new Walbro 225 pump and we will see if that helps. I am also changing fuel relay.
Update for everyone I had my car tested and the code came back it is my throttle body sensor so gonna get it changed either today or tomorrow and I will let all know if that fixed the prob.

I installed the new fuel pump and it runs way better. That was the problem for the last two years and now I finally changed it and can drive without worrying about not making it home.Originally Posted by dwinhofer

The Walbro you installed, is it an in the tank replacement or an in-line mod? Where did you buy it and how much?

I got it off ebay for 100 dollars. Look up Walbro Authentic 255 HP Fuel Pump 85-02 Camaro Corvette. It was an in the tank replacement.
Ok update again for everyone replaced throttle body sensor and it helped a little but it is still acting like its not getting gas for the most part im ok if i drive double footed but today while i was driving it about died I had to kick it up in neutral and rev it then hurry and kick it back in drive I am going nuts not being able to figure out the problem supposedly I have been able to rule out fuel pump, fuel filter, vacuum leak, and the throttle body sensor
I have a question I have the supposed old computer chip how can I test it to see if it really is bad I do not have a tester for it also would the service number be the same on the new chip as the old one?

What is good? Is it steady? Does it hold it? is it the same as the pump gets hot?Originally Posted by ICE43701

I think what you might need to do is attach a fuel pressure gauge and drive the car until it acts up and watch for the fuel pressure to drop off.
it spits and sputters as soon as I start it
