Hello,
I just have a couple questions regarding the T56. I have an 84 Z28 w/ the stock t5 and I have a 69-80 350 sbc. Which flywheel do I need to fabricate that 6 spd tranny? Ive looked everywhere for the stock lt1 t56 flywheels, at junkyards, parts stores, and no luck. I just need to know which one to get at jegs.
I think its the 168 tooth one but Im not sure. Second, If i was to get a 90-92 gauge cluster, I wouldnt have to worry about VSS, would I? Those are the only things that are setting me back, so If someone could help me out that would be great.

You'll have to get a custom flywheel to adapt the T56 to a 2 piece rear main seal motor. Second, the 90-92 cluster will need a VSS because 1. its electronic, 2. How would it know how fast your're going with out a sensor? For the flywheel, give mcleod a call or centerforce. I ran into the exact same problem about a year ago.

I believe centerforce makes a complete kit with the clutch and flywheel for the 2 piece main seal. Get ready to grab your ankles because it's very expensive. If you get a cluster from a 91-92 or and '87 up Pontiac you use the existing VSS in the T56 but you also need a box that translates the signal to the proper pulse per minute. There are probably other issues involved with that. They also make a box that will convert the electric signal to a cable drive for a regular speedo, but those are pretty expensive as well.

If you use a 90-92 gauge cluster, get the SGI-5 interface box from Dakota Digital (www.dakotadigital.com) to convert the T56 VSS signal to the signal required by the cluster. Centerforce and McLoed both make a flywheel fo the 2-piece rear main. Around $325 for the flywheel. The Centerforce Clutch is is like $525! I got a SLP Clutch for $340. Check Star Clutches also.
