I think my 2nd gear synchro might have something wrong with it...
It all started last week...I'm grinding a little or alot depending on rpm whenever I try to shift into 2nd. I've just been by[assing 2nd and going to 3rd and taking it easy on my car for the past week.

I went to a tranny shop to see about getting my clutch replaced and I asked about the synchro. He asked me if it wass making any howling noises before it went. I said yes. He said the fluid level is probably low.

Now,when the car is cold inthe morning,I can usually get 1-2 shifts into 2nd with the synchro working. Does that possibly mean that if I top off the fluid level that I MIGHT get 2nd gear back?

I doubt the damage is from powershifting,as my clutch has needed replacing for the past year, and the LO3 barking into 2nd I dont think would hurt it anyway.....do I have a chance?

Thanks.

About 90% of all "synchro" problems are really clutch problems.

I'd say change the clutch first and see how it is. Trans R&R is very little labor, so if it still grinds, then take it back out and deal with it. I'd bet the clutch will fix it.

Don't forget to put in a new pilot bearing.

Yes the clutch is prett bad. I'm hoping to get it replaced this weekend. That would make sense,as the synchro only started acting up as the clutch has progressed into the really horrible last legs state that its in. Thanks
