Hi-
First let me say thanks to those who built and maintain the site it has been a great help. I have an 82 z28 with an older 350 and the original saginaw 4 speed. I have been told that the trans was unique to 82 and the v8s. Is this true, would a saginaw from an 82 I4/V6 - 83 I4/V6/v8 work. Are there different ratios? Is the v8 trans actually any stronger? I appreciate any info that anyone could give me.

the saginaw (iron case, reverse is left and DOWN), is garbage. It's a truck tranny. Wide ratio's, weak, slow shifting crappy mechanism etc
It's specific to 1982/'83 I think. Not only the V-8's I think, i'm pretty sure you can get it in 6cyl/4cyl cars of that era.
The high perf upgrade choice is the super T-10, aluminum case, reverse is left and UP/forward).
