speedo/700R4/3.73's

Hi guys I already saw the thread about switching out the gears in the tranny and the tech article. But my mechanic said that is not possible because I have a electric speedo. He said it was a PM generator or something like that on the transmission, no speedometer cable at all. What do I do now my car is a 91 Z with LB9. I want the speedo to work so any help would be appreciated.

I guess the my mechanic decided to take the sensor off the transmission and look inside. There are the drive and driven gear like the tech article said. Now I need a 15 tooth and 45 tooth and the sleeve that goes along with it for the speedometer to read right? Man did those gears wake my car up off the line. I used to have a nice lil squeal. Now it is a louder squeal, not much more spinning, but the car just lifts and launches. Even get a little bark in 2nd gear. Can't wait to run the 1/8th this weekend.

Somebody please explain cuz I'm about to install some 3.73s and I need to make sure my speedo reads correctly. Since my car is a 1992, my 700r4 has an electric speedo also?
How do we correct this after installing new gears?

I ordered the 15 and 44 tooth gears as explained in the tech section on this board. With the 44 gear you will also need a new sleeve as stated in the tech section. This combo will get you the closest to prior rear gears and drive/driven gears in speedo. You will like the 3.73's.

hey markz28, i guess we have the same engine
305 LB9. Some have said that 3.73s is too much for the tpi. what do you think? i'm sure you're driving at a higher rpm but much much higher? also, are you getting all this "whine" people talk about? i still don't know where i should get my gears from. any suggestions? thanks.
