I am getting a set of gears installed and most likely I will be going with 3:42, but should I go with 3:73 instead.

You want speed as in top speed? Go with 2.73s.
If you meant you want acceleration, go with 3.73s or 4.11s (depending on your setup).
3.42s are good all around gears, basically great for street/strip vehicles that are daily driven.

2.73s will get you speeding tickets, I like 3.73s myself

LOL, I feel the same way. The deeper the gear the harder it is to speed!

How much of a MPG difference would 2.73 to 3.73 gearing get? Because being 17 and dailydriver, i DO care about gas mileage :P

Actually it shouldn't too bad, here's why, before I got my tranny rebuilt I had no OD, so I was pushing 2500 rpm at 65. I was getting 14 mpg, now I have OD and push 2000rpm at 65. Now I get 17 mpg, so I figured that with 3:73 doing 65 in OD will be around 2500rpm because doing 55 would be 2000rpm, so basically with OD I will be at the same rpm I was when I didn't have OD.
