hey.guys, title speaks for itself.....but my issue is related to the tranny downshifting....So ill have it in the overdrive position, say im cruising at about 80 km/h,, now when i Hammer ton it the thing won't downshift unless i do it manually...i know the TV cable is set properly...so could it be because of the shift kit??? i can manually up shift it and down shift...and while it is in overdrive it had no issues on up shifting..just the down shift...any help would be appreciated...cuz when i down shift it manually slams so hard it feels like it will fall out from under my feet. i know about the trans-go and will look at that later..but until i get the cash this will have to do.
thanks for the help

Re: 700 r4 shifting problem after b&m shift improver kit
The BM kit is a street/strip kit. I didnt personally install the BM kit that was installed in my car, but I read the directions and there are certain modifications that you would do to make the transmission shift for a Street or Strip application(same with the transgo kit). I dont know what you did, I wasnt there, but it sounds like you modified the shift plate to make it the race manual shift version.

I had the B@M kit for a while, it was a very rough shift. Especially 1st-2nd shift. It shifted so hard that it would spin my rear tires going in to second (I have 2.73 gears in the rear). Personally instead of the BM i would have just installed a 1-2 servo and a Corvette governor to change the shift feel. The BM is just too harsh, even the street version...IMO

Don't use the B&M, call Dana and get parts that make your trans work properly.

ya im sure my tv cable is set correctly, im 100 percent sure that i followed the instructions right...... i bout the kit that has the option for towing or street/strip...did everything the directions said, took out the big spring(not sure what it was called),drilled the hole to spec, changed neccessary springs, etc. ive had some peoplw say thats how it is supposed to be...and the performance shop where i live say he thinks something is wrong...ahhhhh who to believe lol its just weird as it shifts up and down cruising around with it in drive...but it just doesn't want to drop down when i hammer on it...stumped

Re: 700 r4 shifting problem after b&m shift improver kit
A point of reference: a friend of mine had a B&M shift kit in his car and the trans broke twice. He then took it to Art Carr who told us that B&M sets the shifts really hard because the guys like to hear the tires chirp when the trans shifts. The problem is that it pounds the trans to death.

Art suggested a "firm" shift and rebuilt his trans. He never had any problems with it after that.

The best advice by far TTOP350. Just got off the phone with Dana. We finally beat a very tough to diagnose issue. Pro- Built will cost you a little more but..... Nobody does TH700R4 type transmission like Dana.
