Hey everyone, in the process of replacing my pinion seal and doing a full diff fluid change, when I pulled my driveshaft I noticed a strip of metal coming off one of the u-joint caps... its kind of like a pen pocket clip, very strange I've never seen anything like this on a u-joint. Appears to be a stock u-joint as it is has the nylon stoppers? anyone know what this is? or what to do with it? is it broken since its only connected to one side? the caps on both sides pull off easily by hand. Forgive my ignorance on this if its something simple, this is one of my first times removing a driveshaft.

Thanks in advance

That's just a strap to keep the caps on while GM was building the car, so the assembler who installed the driveshaft didn't have the caps falling off. Snap it off of the other cap and put the driveshaft back in, making sure the caps are properly seated in the yoke and you'll be all set.

It is a factory assembly aid. Prevents the caps from falling off between the building of the driveshaft and the installation of it. The clip was attached to both caps.
