hey guys... anyone know what i can do about that horrible hesitation when i stomp on the gas "o" my 82 2.8 Cam? it bogs down a little, then jumps up a little bit. its a 4 speed manual and the gas is so hard....physically hard to push. i cant do a decent burnout b/c im afraid to blow my clutch... any pointers?

I had that powerplant on my S-10 Blazer (but with auto).
Serious & true.
It's the camshaft profile.
This matter of "Power" is "JUST AS PREVELENT" as in the MPFI cam shaft profile.
IT bogs until about 2800 then it's on the cam till about 3500-4000K.
THEN it's over, just puffin' & huffin'.

Easy & expensive..
Dump the power plant & install a V-8 w/stick or buy a new ride.
Ya can't cure it.
NOT A PUT DOWN, just reality.
I "had" that problem with my Blazer since 1989 until the engine died after 211,500 miles.
I "had" that problem in my Fireird (originally had a 2.8 mill).
My 3.4 mill in the Firebird, the camshaft profile gives the engine a linear smooth torque curve, not peaky, like the engine you have & I had.
Really you cannot cure it unless you do major open heart surgery.
NO cam swap will make a difference, as it'$$$$ not worth it.
Drive it until engine dies & buy new ride or insert a 3.4 mill.

hmmm.. and say bye-bye to my throwout bearing? well, i also have a 98 camaro sc 5 speed... that thing'll fly. learned the hard way about clutches with that one, cant do that too often or you'll be down the drian frickin $800 like i was......damn

I'd have to agree w/KED on this one...
I have an 83 with the ES2E carb and these things (in stock form) weren't meant to spin their tires on a regular basis.
However, Doesn't mean they couldn't do it without a little modding. I would imagime the carb would be the first thing to go. Upgrade to the heads found on the MPFI F-bodies (85-89) and install a better camshaft.
If emmissions are not of concern, Edelbrock makes a 4 barrell intake. Top it off with a 600cffm carb (or smaller) yopu should be good to go.
BUT Keep in mind that the 82-84 2.8's had smaller crankshaft Main bearing Journals. What does this mean? Specifically -- if you take care of the motor (and don't beat on it) it will take care of you. Beat on it and a bottom end knock is likely to occur.
I am now enjoying 16,000+ miles since I rebuilt my motor and got the car tagged. Many small detals had to be addressed over the past nine months. I'm sure there will be many more in the future.
