Yea, that's true, too.
The truck hit ya, also.
It was "I'm inching into this space now" at stop light bang-o.
FAST RS is still good & Crazy, tho!
Wish I could have pulled that off & gotten a paint job outta it!

fastest I've gone in my camaro (notice that ) is about 85-90, and it was falling on its face fast.

Fastest I have driven myself (non-camaro) is about 125'ish. Rode in a car up in 130's, forget what it was. Thats when stuff on side of roads becomes a blur

Had some very cool but dry whether last night and an very empty open freeway. I now have a new top speed record in this car (slight downhill grade- about a two mile stretch of freeway. I was able to hit 4100 rpms in top gear= Calculated it to 138.7.

I also now have a broken front grill from old age (brittleness of the plastic) and wind force.

I need to buy a new airdam for this thing sometime soon also. I have repaired and repainted the lower nose too many times already from scraping and overall road pitting. Been thinking about a satin metal grill insert (not shiney, satin aluminum on the edges, black on the top and bottoms of the grill fins). Opinions? I'm wondering how they actually look in person, I have only seen them in ads.

Edit: Hey KJRocks, I am "Halfpint"- got a clue now? DUh!

Dear lord, I would be afraid to take my car past 90, much less 120+. Fastest i've ever gone is about 80.

with the t/a 120 mph speedo in my 86 firebird 2.8, I had it between 120 and where 125 would be. This is on speed rated dayton tires and a 3.42 rear end.

Fastest I ever got my car going was 135kph (about 85mph). I've never driven my car anywhere where I could try and top it out. I haven't gone much faster in other cars either.

Under the right cercustances and the right car (built safely for that speed) I have had the fortune top 165+mph. Here's a fairly recent shot of my Vette (the blue one in front) making a pass at Calif Speedway at about 150+ in the shot.

i can only do right about 100. 3.73s, 26" tall tires and only going to a 1:1 ratio (3rd gear) doesn't make for too much top end speed. but, then again, i have no place to run any faster than that really. don't really have a place to go 100 but... well... i have.

Exactly! You know what that means right? You need one Ferrari and one Autobahn... or one heck of a really-well rebuilt 3rd gen.

had mine all the way around to the 10 or 15 for about 30min goin home on an old gravel covered with tar and no lines road after thanksgiving. this road has all kinds of hills and it felt like i had the car airborn about thirty times but i now better. im crazy some time even to the point that my car maxed out don't even give me a thrill. oh and my tires are over sized and i run between 5 and 10 mph over at 60mph.

This thread is a classic example of why thirdgen owners get a bad reputation.

If you want to know what speed your car tops out at, then quit being a *****, find a flat piece of road, and find out. Asking some other guy what his car will do is just bench racing and has no value whatsoever.

The multiple replies to this thread with guesstimation and hearsay are rediculous. If you have an 85mph speedo, and that's the only indicator available to you, then you have NO IDEA HOW FAST YOU WERE GOING, except to say that you were over 85mph. Not to mention it makes us all look like a bunch of bragging hillbillies measuring our dicks.

Also, the speed limiter kicks in at 115mph in almost every GM fuel injected vehical. Further enforcing that many replies in this thread are bull****.

Some credibility for the thirdgen enthusiast would be nice, but as long as threads like this continue I really don't see how that will ever happen.

Well don't want a ticket, so open road around here is out, thanks to being red! PLus, like many of the others, I only have a 85 speedo.

But I have had the car up to 115 on the dyno, per the computer. Hope that is credible enough for ya! That was when it had 3.42 gears and the 2.8...

With the 3.4 and the 3.73 gears we did not push it that fast.

You should know more about these cars before you post and look a like an A**. not all of these cars have limiter. Only the I believe 87/88+ cars have limiters.

82-86 no limiter.

as there is no way for the computer to calc speed. The computer especially in a stick with no electric connectors has not one clue as to what your speed is unless you have the electric speedo.

all my car has is the RPM limiter. cable driven speedo and a stick.

There is no way the computer knows which gear I am in let alone the speed, all it can do is limit rpm.

Nice. My car was a FI 2.8, made in 87. No rev limiter. No speed limiter. None. I guess it was limited to when the engine would throw a rod, but that is it.

Course I just assume I have a rev limiter as other have said they hit theirs on an 86. I have never found out first hand and don't expect to. isnt it suppose to be somewhere like 7200rpm???

Drew, sounds like your dick is only 115mph and then it putters out? I have a tach that read 4100 rpms, I have a tire radius at 12.85, I have a R&P of 3.23's, I have and OD gear of .70- All that measures 138.7 MPH. give or take a few MPHS for error (remember, tire radius will grow slightly also at 138 mph so the chance of it being greater is more than it being less than 138. My point was its pretty respectable for a 173ci motor to push a 3000 lb car through the air to 138. Check my link in my profile and you'll educater yourself as to how this car hads been modified and you'll certainly be enlightened that a little factory speed limiter isn't holding me down. Got a V8 maybe there do ya? got a attitude do ya? Superiority complex to a little V6 maybe?

v6, 2.8 MPFI, 121MPH.

Was following a friend in his 2002 dodge neon SXT and I matched him at 121 according to his speedometer. He has a 2.0 4 banger, but it pulls. Of course, I eat him with my torque, and when my engine's tuned right, I waste him.

Never hit the rev limiter before this instance...thought I did not have one either till the tranny was not shifting. Bounced the rev limiter hard on the track... 87 2.8L FI also...

Back when I was young and stupid(and my car was a little younger and still running ), I got my car around 140mph by my estimate. I have to admit that it is an estimate from rpm's( I think if I remember it was around 4800 rpm's). I felt like I had more peddle left, but who knows if it would have gone any faster, I had 5(yes 5 ) poeple in the car with some bags in the back. I had good speed rated tires and the car was only 11yrs old at the time, but the car is bone stock. Yes it was a long straight away with some down hills. I just remember that I did an hour trip(at or a little over speed limit) one way in a little over an hour both ways , and I was only doing 90 or so the one way.

I will say this I don't think I will ever go that fast again, and I relize that I was lucky that I didn't get pulled over, or get hurt!!

What do you mean the trans wasnt shifting? None of these cars stock will take OD at WOT. I guess that is kinda a speed limiter, but as far as there being an electronic speed limiting device, not on mine.

Exactly...
I get on it hard alot and take it way past the MPH at WOT where it was hitting at the track and it had never done it till that day last spring. It only hung up that one day at the track. I took it out the next day to see what exact speed and condition it was not shifting and it clunked once and has been fine ever since. Never had to adjust anything. Don't know what the deal was. Had had the Transgo shift kit in for over a year with no problems before then. Have not had a problem since...
Go figure!

Custom chip with no limiter pulled over by the CHP doing 125mph after slowing down (for safty sake) for the i580 to hwy 132 interchange in centeral CA.

Got a way with out a ticket thanks to the 5 car pile up that happened in the oposite direction before I had a chance to dig my registration out. I was not looking forward to the fine!!!

In Texas you can be executed for passing gas in the wrong place.

I could live there, but I wont. Way to much trouble to get into.
Ohio is much safer.

I have been pulled over about 10 times... never given a warning

cops here are dicks... but probably most cops that pull people over for hardly speeding are like that.... you never hear about the good cops because they're doing their jobs right...

Depending on the way you think about it, defensive driving is good or bad...

on the good side my insurance doesn't go up...

the bad side, the damned cops are getting tons of money from me for no real reason... and since everyone is just doing defensive driving, cops can keep giving out these frivilous tickets, and until they pull over enough lawyers, nothing will happen... I imagine that victimless crimes would become a huge factor in local elections if everyone had to pay the full cost of every ticket they got...
