ok my transmision in my 91 camaro **** the bed no 3rd or 4th anymore so i made a trip to my local junkyard today and found out all they really had was a 5speed trans out of a fourth gen camaro with a 3.8l i can get a good deal on the tranny and every thing to convert my car but my question is will the 3.8l bell housing bolt up to my 3.1l is the 3.8 a 60* engine? also will the flywheel from the 3.8 bolt to my 3.1l i would like to put the tranny in and later on when i have more money pick up a gn motor or something for it

The 3.8 is a 90* engine with a BOP bolt pattern
In short it will bolt up, how the rest fits, I cant give an answer for
I did a good bit of research when looking for a replacement for my 2.8 but no two site would give a definite answer why yes or why no

thanks for the info and that was exactly my thoughts i can pick up the tranny and all necassary parts to convert for about 150 or so as long as it will bolt up to my engine and the flywheel will bolt up i can fabricate the rest if need be

Yes, the original 3.8 was a V8 pattern, but the 3800 got the metric pattern, just like our 60* engines.Originally Posted by Pocket

I would imagine you might have to fond a clutch/flywheel from a manual 60*, but am unsure if the 3800 has the same pattern for mounting to the crank (could be, but doubtful).

Here's the deal; you CAN'T use the 3.8 flywheel. No way, no how.
The newer 3800s in the 4th gen use an 8 bolt flywheel and your 60* uses a 6 bolt flywheel.
You CAN use the trans. You must use a 4th gen clutch disk (the original 3.8 piece or a stock replacement is close enough to work) and then use your 60* pressure plate. The 3.8 4th gen uses a good WCT5 trans with the larger input shaft of the 3rd gen V8 cars. It is just like my setup now; it is a V8 T5 with a GM METRIC pattern bellhousing.
I had my clutch disk made at Fort Wayne Clutch in Indiana, but you can use a Stock 3.8 clutch if you are just tooling around town. It is about a 1/16 of an inch different if I remember.
