so im deleting my A/C and i noticed the bracket that the bottom of the compressor bolts to is also the bracket that my power steering pump bolts to. if i just pull the compressor, theres the top of that bracket sticking up into the engine bay and makes the space look cluttered

did GM make a non-A/C power steering bracket? a peice like that would eliminate the intrusive upper part of the bracket thats in my car now and make the bay look cleaner. if so, does anyone have a car theyre parting out with one that they would like to sell?

if not, it looks like ill have to go ahead and locate a S10 manual steering box and eliminate the power steering altogether

Yank the compressor with both of its brackets (the one bolted to the cylinder head AND the one bolted to the 2 front bolts on the upper plenum). Then, loosen the bolt holding the power steering pump to the water pump, yank the rear PS bracket right out, pull the upper PS bracket bolt, and rotate the PS pump inward until you line up the other hole.

As in this pic, "Look, ma, no A/C compressor!"

hmmm, your car seems to have a serpentine belt setup. mine is an 86' and has a V-belt system. perhaps the brackets are different?

Possibly. I didn't realize you had a V-belt system. I don't think it would be that hard, but some nice pics of your A/C and PS brackets might help a little, if you could.

I cut the top off mine. You could probably use serpentine brackets as well.

Eww. I don't like that set up one bit.

You could go serpentine, but you would have to replace the water pump with a later one (reverse spin) in order to keep from overheating.
