Ok guys idk what to think of this but everytime i fill up my car it runs AMAZING...i mean like in the butt dyno sence of amazing. BUUUUUTTTTT after like maybe not even a mile its back to normal ol firebird. Could this be something with the gas tank?...i tried STP cleaner. Also used Sea foam a while back(seemed to help but idk).

Something to maybe help you guys figure this out possibly....

For some reason the gas tank seems like it doesnt releive any presure at all. Like when the car is parked for a while you can hear the tank like pop...not literally but like a pan in the oven does. This is what i found out kept setting the alarm off on my car. It was enough of a vibration that it will set the alarm off(well the warning alarm not a full alarm)

Another thing to add to this is I took it out for a drive today and it ran amazing all day. I just did a front seat converion. I took the front seats out of a 95 bonneville i had laying around(black leather...mmmmm) and put them in the firebird. Well i also took the back seats out cause now even if you could somehow manage to get around the seats that dont fold forward like the orginal seats do it would be pointless cause the new seats are bigger and BEARLY fit in the car. They are very comfortable tho. My reason for saying all that is maybe cause of the weight savings im just thinking its faster but it seemed alot faster today. Usually if i want it to be faster i take the system out and take the back seats out. Well today it felt that fast with the system in there(and that sucker literally weights at least 70 pounds or more...idk just guessing)

So why would it run so good today...only thing i can think of it that its getting cold out now. I live in New York as you can see on the side so yes it is cold here. I had a hoody and jeans on and it was supposed to be the hottest point of the day. Either way would the colder air(yes i know its more dense) make THAT much of a difference in these cars. I mean come on the thing was amazingly fast compared to its normal behavor. And mind you this thing gets 22 mpg regulary as i drive it to work everyday. Mostly city but also alot of back roads too. So idk why its doing this but hopefully some one can help me out on this one. If the thing ran everyday like it did today it would be sweet. It makes me want to know what a turbo would actually feel like in this thing(oopps i leaked out that, ok yes guys im back to square one, i gave up the ls1 idea due to insurance and other costs and am going back to the turbo idea)

Ok well sry for the long story. But either way im kind of wondering why these things are going on. The way it was running today was making me feel like this motor has alot more to offer then to me then its been given me on a daily basis.

Maybe the fact that im finally buying the bosch 3 injectors from fuelinjectorconnection.com has scared my car into thinking it needs to run better...haha just joking but i think it is funny that now all of a sudden it wants to run better!

Yes, it's getting cold around here. Colder air means a denser A/F charge because more air is getting sucked into the intake (cold gases are more dense than hot ones, as you already know, which is why most drag racers ice down their intakes after a race). Also, the colder air cools down the transmission oil pan a little better, reducing slip ever so slightly (as you have the 700R4, IIRC).

You lost a few pounds by taking the rear seats out. I don't know how many, but there is a few pounds of steel in there (the stuff the foam under the upholstery attaches to is all sheet steel and there may be some springs as well). As you already know, less sprung weight (weight supported by the springs) means a little more fun. For that matter, less weight altogether means more fun.

For your gas tank, call Ken Barrett or somewhere and look into getting a replacement tank vent valve (don't know if this is a dealer-only part or not). This can be seen from the driver's side rear wheel well. It looks kind of like a white plastic bell with a fuel hose attached, and should be in front (behind? been a while) of the rear axle. Also look into replacing the vapor can and/or the filler cap.

Oh, and fresh gas burns better than older gas, and the gas does get somewhat heated by engine heat as it passes back to the tank. Why the fuel lines cross the engine, I'll never know, because it seems like a dumb idea.

Other than that, I would guess that the injectors are scared of being tossed...

Haha it seems like its working that way!

Hmm ill have to stop over at the dealer and see what they want for one of them. If not ill find out another way to retrofit one that will work the same. The way dealers are selling cars these days they want huge $ for parts and repairs. Crazy if you ask me but w/e. Thats why I dont own a new car....oh **** thats right I just bought that 06 ram slt...at least its got an exended warrenty front to back up to 100,000 miles(im not even a quarter way there yet!) with no limit on years; compliments of my company!...lol

Alright well im thinking of flushing out the tank and resealing it with a kit i found...idk what brand it was. Its two part...it was on horsepower tv or one of them shows. You take the tank out and put this stuff in it and its gets rid of all the crap...then you rinse it all out then put the other part in and it seals it all and pretty much gives you a new tank...then put por 15 or something on the outside and have a new tank(also get a new pump and pickup to be safe) It seems like there is some crap in that tank that might be leading to some problems I have. The car does run good but every once in a while it runs amazing!

Id like to have that amazing everyday! Hopefully the new injectors will help out some...alot of people say they are alot better then factory so we will see. They are only 129 for the set with a 3yr warrenty!
