I have to replace the power steering gearbox on my gf's 91 firebird. Im just wondering how much of a pain these are to install, and if there's a write up somewhere. I'd like to have some idea of what im doing before i get into it.

Re: power steering gearbox
The hardest part sometimes is getting the pitman arm off. You can 'rent' the pitman arm puller from AZ or one of the others and it may take some soaking in PB Blaster to loosen up. Sometimes they pop right off though.

Remove the bolt from the input shaft and slide it up. Undo the two fluid lines, release the pitman arm, remove three bolts holding it to the body and remove.

It's a good idea to pick up a $2 steering pump filter while you're there. It looks like an AC orifice and slides into the return line.

Top off with fluid and bleed it by turning lock to lock a couple of times-just don't grind your tires into the driveway, let it roll or turn it with the front raised.

Use some lock-tite on the input shaft bolt when you re-install too.
