A question about turbo cast wheel sizes

My friend has an 1983 Trans Am with disc brakes front and rear. It came with 15" gold fin wheels, which he was going to replace with the 14" turbo cast wheels and caps that he already has. Well, they won't fit over the disc brakes, so he just bought a set of 15" turbo cast wheels.
My question is this... I have 14" turbo cast wheels and caps on my 84 Firebird SE, which has front wheel disc brakes and rear drum brakes. Can I put 15" turbo cast wheels on my car, or will they be too big?
Another related story... my wife had a 1979 Camaro with 14" wheels. We put 15" wheels on the car and she couldn't make turns as the front wheels rubbed against the wheel wells.
I was considering looking for 15" wheels, but now I don't know if I can put them on my car. I would love to put the correct 215/65/15 tires on my car, but do I have to settle for my 205/70/14 tires forever?
