New Wheels for GTA
I think they turned out OK. I wanted something a little different than the norm, and I was trying not to mess up the GTA styling. I have the LS1 brakes upfront, but even 18's make them look small. I think I am going to have to lower the car even more. It is a shame because I really like how the hypercoils handle. Anyone ever trimmed a progressive spring?

One more pic. I only get three, so if there are any requests I will keep that spot open.

The wheels are ROHs Drift R's Comp Black from group A racing. They are made especially for the thirdgen and they fit like it too. The back is 18X10 and the fronts are 18X9. They require no spacers and they are pretty light considering the size. I will compare them to the GTA wheels when I get a chance.
the price was about 1900 delivered to my door with tires and balancing. Talk to Jeff at group A he is a good guy.
Flyinlow, I had to size down the pics so they would upload to the server, but I agree the location could be better. I have been waitng a while to get the wheels and drive my car. LS1 brakes would not fit under stock wheels, so i was in a hurry to get some pics. What kind of pic would you like to see.
The springs are a 1.25 inch drop according to Hypercoil, but I measured more like a 1 inch drop. I called Vette Brake Products ( where I got the springs and shocks) and they said there is only one listing for the thirdgen in the hypercoil catalog. Also he was not sure the valving in the Bilstiens would line up with another spring.
I am only about an inch and a quarter from the bump stop on the rear as it is. That is not alot of room for travel. Also I am already on the last hole on my LCA brackets.

Thanks for the comments guys! There are so many nice cars on this sight. Everytime I come to this sight I find another car that is over the top. I took a another picture in a warehouse parking lot today during my lunch brake. I hope it is a little better. I have some more, I may mail to flyinglow, if the offer is still out to host the pics.
On a side note I am starting to feel good about the way the car looks. When the fuel pump quit on the way home today, I have never had so many people stop to ask if I need help and to comment on how nice the car looked
Luckliy the pumped cooled down and had enough left to get me home. Figures I changed everything but the pump, never fails.
Almost forgot the tire size on back is 285 35 and the front is 265 35. They make the stock wheels look like toys. I am also considering leaving the springs for now, I just cannot get over how well the car handles. the words "function before form" keep coming to mind.

Thats a long story, but lets just say the body guy already had it on by the time I arrived at the shop. With holes in the front bumper there was not much I could do. I agree no front plate would make the car. I am considering black flames on the front. If that happens the plate will disappear.

wow with that new pic you can see the wheel alot better...I like that! the only thing is, I'm not a big fan of the centers...I think I'd have to get custom ones made with a red bird with a black background or something.

said it yesterday and i will say it today...You car looks awesome. I love the 91-92 GTAs...If i get another thirdgen it will probably be one of those. And I love the colour and love your choice in wheels. Yes it could stand to be lowered a bit but I probably wouldnt bother myself. If it handles well, dont mess awith a good thing

FlyingLow89 I appreciate the comments, when I started this project three or four years ago I remeber "oogling over" pictures of your silver 89 GTA parked in a garage or warehouse. (Notice my GTA emblems). Not that everybody's comments do not mean anything, but comming from a guy whose car I admired in the past, makes it mean something a little more.
Back then paint, motor, and chassis seam like the distant future. Now it feels like it is coming together.
If I may ask why did you let the 89 go?

always wanted a 4th gen. Got one, plus needed a daily driver ('01 GTP) and had an 81 Trans Am I was doing with my brother....so basicaly, i had too many cars, not enough time, plus I went as far with the car as I wanted to go. Being in shcool didnt help my cause at all. . But ya, I see myself buying another 3rd gen as a project sometime soon. would really like a nice clean 91-92 rag to start

$1900 with tires and balancing to the door? Sounds like a great deal. What brand of tire did you go with? How do the wheels sit in the wheelwell? Do the come out to the fender lip or sit just inside of it? I've been looking for a 5 spoke black center wheel for my black Formy to show off the brakes and still keep the appearance it has with the black GTA wheels. Looks like you found it.

Those ROH wheels are awesome. I'm pretty picky but to me it seems ROH has really got their act together when it comes to styling their wheels. ZS, Snyper, now this one....
Thanks for sharing!
I hope to see it first-hand some day. Any thoughts about coming to the National Fbody Motorsports Event next June at Indianapolis, Indiana? You could give that suspension of yours a real workout, it's great fun!

Well as far as what is next, I have purchased a set of PMD seats that I am having recovered in a saddle colored leather. When those are finished I am installing an autosport 2 1/2" rollbar five point harness and ACC carpet.
I was looking at changing the intake to a single plane EFI, but I have not even been to the track yet! So I am going to leave the engine alone for a while. I just finally got a tune that seems to do well on the street as well as when I got the hammer down.
Next winter I am going to try and build the ultimate ten bolt. I will try posting a pic of the engine but I already have three pics so who knows.

Here is a close up of the front wheels and the reason I needed new wheels. Those LS1 brakes would not fit in the GTA wheel. They look small inside the ROH!
The tires are Sumitomo. The selection on sizes get pretty small when you get into 18s. Sumitomo and toyo seem to have the most selection and are the most cost effective. Sofar I cannot complain

Yea i polished the calipers I had 4 month wait for the wheels, so I figured what the heck, I have not seen to many polished calipers, and gave it a try. I think it turned out pretty trick. Thanks for noticing.
