Fuel pumps

Are the fuel pumps on 87 tpi iroc-z's electric or mechanical? If electric can it be switched to a mechanical unit and if so, how easily?

its an electric fuel pump, not sure if you can switch to a mechanical, i'm sure theres some way you can, dunno why you'd want to.. but its a royal pain in the *** to get to, you gotta disconnect your exhaust behind the cat,(2 bolts) then you gotta completely drop your rear end, to get the tank out, to get the the fuel pump which is inside your gas tank. I just got finished replacing mine, wants very fun, lot of work, but its do able

Its electric. I don't think there is a mechanical pump that can deliver the pressure and volume needed to operate the fuel injection system. If your trying to avoid removing the tank, you can get an electric inline pump.

I dont think anything short of a all out racing mechanical pump can deliver what a electric can. Even then, I doubt it.
