Fog Lights
Fog Lights
Alright. argh. I read a lot of posts here of people asking about Fog lights / running lights / driving lights, whatever you call them.
A lot of people mention "Blazers" and that they look identical to the STOCK fog lights..
I found only one image of Blazer fog lights (on ebay) and it has differences from the stock ones.
This is for an IROC-Z 87 camaro
We have stock lights, but they were pretty bad, so we're trying to get new ones (and rather than paying 200$ for both lights, and getting stock ones, we're looking for newer ones)
We bought some fog lights, but they were different. the mount was at the bottom of the light, not really in the back of the light. and that causes problems with the stock brackets that you have to mount.
Does anybody have any links, or anything to them? Walmart's website doesn't show anything, neither does KMart. My dad said he went to walmart today, but they were identical to the EBAY ones (not the right ones)
does anybody know about these foglights everybody keeps saying they're very identical to the stock ones?? Need something that will fit on the stock brackets. they don't even have to be fog lights, they can be driving/running lights
not wanting to put any extra holes in anything, and try to use the bracket, if not, get a new bracket (or whatever)
Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

I'm not sure if the fogs in the camaro are the same as in the firebird, but I used the "blazer" lights and they worked out great, I did not use the new housings from the lights I just transplanted the innards and lenses from the new lights into the old housings. the only thing I had to do was splice the power wires inside the housings. while I was at it I took the oportunity to pull out the crappy 55 watt bulbs and replace them with 100 watters, wow what a difference that made well worth the 10.00 for the new bulbs. all in all I spent about $30.00 for two brand new and bright driving lights, not bad. I bought mine from autozone by the way.
were the light housings the same? or were the blazer's different somehow?
talking about the position of where you put the screws to hold it in..
if you can get a picture of the lights for me, or of the housing of the lights (Blazers) that you didn't use, that would help a bunch.

The Blazer lights will really only work with the Firebird/ T/A lights. The Iroc and Z28 lamps are totally different...and a PITA to find parts for!!

Anyone know if those yellowish night racing lights can be used in the fog lamps? I don't even know what they're called, that's only way I can think of to describe them. I'd love to have those.

I installed these same lights in my RS and I love them...much brighter than the stockers on my Iroc. I only paid $15 for mine, so I guess the price went up, huh? They are VERY similar, but NOT a direct fit. For instance, MasterAce mentioned that the bracket mount didn't really fit the stock brackets, and what I found is that the lens is upside down for install in to the stock bracket. I did get them to work. I had to take the lens and light housing apart, bend one small metal tab on the light, turn it over, and reistall it back into the housing...now the lens was right.
Now for the bracket...The light sits too close and hits the bracket. Not good. I had to make 4 small extensions (2 for each side) for the bottom light bolts. This was a time consuming PITA. I made them out of 1/8" aluminum so they won't rust. Luckily those top screws are pretty long so they werent' a problem.
I will get pics next week for you guys since I have to pull the light to show you, but if you don't mind having to do a little fab work, these are GREAT for Irocs and RS cars and the stock brackets. I may buy a set and replace my stock Iroc lights if I find the time. Wiring them up is a piece of cake, search for my name in electronics and you'll get 3 or 4 threads I replied to with links to diagrams in them.
Good luck all...Ed

It's been a while and I never posted my pics of these lights. Well, here ya go.
Again, these are lights I got off Ebay and I fit them into my RS's grille with a little work, but nothing too hard. At $40, they're a great deal and work well.

As far as the parts I used to do this, here's a little rundown:
(4) 1/4-20x 3" bolts
(8-10) 1/4" flat washers, used as spacers
(4) 1/4-20 Nyloc nuts
(4) 1/4" lockwashers
(4) small pieces of 1/8" thick aluminum
(1) pair factory fog light brackets, springs, bolts, etc. Available at dealer.
You have to make the spacers since the light housing sits too close to the bracket. You have to space it out a bit to make room for the wiring. All other parts are bolt-on. Here's the pics showing the differences in the two types.

All cars are made with holes drilled for the factory brackets, even the base model cars. Those frame parts are all the same. You'll see them if you look in there.
