what is better 700r4 or th350

i have a 305 that is pumping a good amout of power, but its not enough. i am building a 383 strocker and eventually it will have a 6-71 blower and should make around 550 hp i want to know if it would be worth switching out my r4 for a 350 now, and what possitive/negative effects it would have
thanks

The TH350 is stronger and much cheaper. The only bad thing is it has no overdrive. Oh well. The 700R4 is a POS IMO and costs too much to fix to only have it break again. You could buy and rebuild many TH350's for the cost of just one rebuilt 700R4. I'd go with the TH350.

Mods: Threw 2.8 in garbage, put in rebuilt
350 .060 over, XE268H Comp cam, Edlebrock
Performer Intake and Edlebrock 600 CFM Carb,
Pete Jackson noisy GearDrive (which sounded
cool for about 5 minutes, now I'm sick of it)
Rebuilt TH350, 3.42 Rear Gears. LCA RLB's.
B&M Mega Shifter.
Now has T5 in it. YES!!!
CenterForce Dual Friction Clutch.

You could have a 700r4 built to handle the power. What you need to decide is how much are you going to drive this thing down the interstate, what rear gears are you going to run, and if you care about mileage.

350 with stealth intake, holley carb, 470 lift cam. 700r4 with .5 boost valve, vette servo, tci lock-up kit, B&M megashifter. Richmond 3.73 gears, powertrax locker, timkin bearings, synthetic lube. Custom 3 inch single into 2 2.5 pipes. 1 1/2 drop springs, 1 5/16 solid front sway bar, 1 inch rear bar, custom subframe connectors, custom LCA relocation brackets. Kobel ground FX, currant red metallic paint. Lots of other stuff...

ditto bhaas, the 700r4 is in allright stock trans, but to handle any power needs to be really built and cost over 1,000$ while the TH350 is about 5-600$

For that much power, you might want to consider a TH400???
