how did you hook up a speed sensor?Any part numbers for what I would need to do it?I've been dealing without a speedo for two years and would like to have a working one eventually.

You might be able to use a VSS from a 700R4 on a 400... the housings are the same diameter but the length might be different. You could try asking at the parts counter if there were any TH400 equiped pickups that had electronic speedos you could use the VSS from.

I could be wrong but I belive the 700R4 sensor is smaller.I know the 2004R is smaller and I belive the TH400 is different from other GM automatic trannies because it is the only one with the larger output shaft and larger extension housing(with 6 bolts as opposed to 4).I wonder if there's something from a 4L80E that will work?Probrobly not
I've also tried to go to parts counter and dealerships but I seem to keep getting blown off by the sales guys.I guess they dont have the time to sit with me and figure it out.

Here's the parts you'll need:
Sensor: #8655315
Reluctor: #8655291
They were used in trucks from the late 80's to early 90's that had the TH400 trans.

ALSO another option is to KEEP the manual speedo sender in the tranny and buy the converter ....
JTR (jags that run) and Street and preformance both sell these converters....They cost about 85 bucks....they screw onto the mechanical speedo VSS and plug into your Electric vss wiring... Its easier to install then redion the gears and VSS unit... and works great....
