Interesting observation on running true duals to rear bumper
I plan on running true duals when I get my car up and going. I had been told that you couldnt run it clear out the back because of the panhard rod. Well, we were looking under mine and a friends car and that appears to be "partially" true. My car had a lg4 origionally. His has a tpi. It appears that what really would cause the problem is the fuel tank on the fuel injected cars. On my car me and my brother loaded the rear suspension as much as we could and we are both big guys and my friend checked the clearance between the panhard rod and I could easily fit 3 inch pipe out the back on both sides. On his car however it appears that the fuel injected fuel tank hangs down lower. This would cause you to have to run the pipe lower and not allow you to have the pipe up high enough to avoid the panhard rod. So, I was wondering what is the capacity of the tpi fuel tanks? He has not had the car long and doesent really know how much it holds. I just thought I would share this. I guess it doesnt really do anygood for those of you lucky enough to be fuel injected but might help some of those carbed guys out there instead of just always hearing that you cant do it.

So does anyone know if this is because of the different kind of pickups/in tank fuel pump or if the injected cars just had bigger fuel tanks or what? I would be interested to know this.

hmmmmm
if you were going to go through the trouble of having duals, im guessing you will be using 2 40 series flowmasters? or eqevialnt? you got to admit that 40's dumping before the rearend on mustangs sounds wicked!!
Well our cars wont sound like mustangs even with the same mufflers because of the firing order, but, actually I am looking at dynomax bullet mufflers because they dont take up a lot of space, and I have talked to a few people that have them and all have told me that they get nice rumble and like the way it sounds. The problem with flows is that they take up so much space(which we do seem to lack). I just hope that I can get my car going soon, because I just started out changing the dead 305 to a 350 and now I would have a hard time finding something on the car that was completely origional.

To answer part of the question, my formerly FI IROC has a 16 gallon tank. What does yours have? My guess is 16 gallons. Have either of you ever filled up your gas tanks when they were empty?
I think the bigger problem with running true duals (especially 3in.) is running the two pipes down the length of the car. Dont get me wrong, it has been done before. There is a few guys who have done it before, on this board. I would suggest doing a search on this Forum. I know there was a guy with a silver firebird that has done this, I cant remember the name though. Also, he had 2 1/4 in. piping I think. Do a search, theres plenty of pics. avaliable.
Hope this helps.

Trust me, I have already researched it. His name is NO4NJUNK. I believe he upgraded from 2.25 to 2.5. I know my tank is 16 gallons, but am not sure what his was. The main clearance prob I see is under the tranny crossmember. I have been looking at getting some oval pipe to run under it from spintech. It will be a while before I get this all done, but I like to plan stuff in advance and thought I would share what I had found. Thanks for your help.

true duals
i know a feller that has a 88 iroc that is tubbed with a 383 stroker, he has a true dual exhaust that dumps parallel with the doors into 40's, it sound 10 times as wicked as a mustang... but then again it's all about personal preferance, i wouldn't mind hearing the bullets.. where is some sound clips?

Well, I have a video from inside of an lt1 camaro ss with duals an x pipe and bullets that dumps before the rear. If you want it, I can tell you where to find it if it is still online. Heck, here is the link: http://www.in-design.com/~gatorman/s...Kens_97_SS.mpg You only get to hear it at idle real quick and it is kind of quiet so you might have to turn up your speakers to distinguish it from the music, but it sound good in my opinion.

He is using hooker long tubes.

He puts out over 400 hp at the rear. I think he has only had it to the track once so far. He said he pulled off like a 13.01 and it was his first time driving at the strip. He said that the same day his friend pulled off something like a 12.4. His friend thought that if he got used to the clutch some more he might be able to make it into the elevens.

Where can I get an exhaust setup like that? I just passed emissions the other day so I'm good for 2 years. I want that exhaust. Anyone know what kind of headers those are and where to get that X-Pipe setup? Thanks.

That is on a fourth gen and it would be a bit tougher to run under the subframe on our cars, but it can be done. They are hooker long tube headers and the x pipe comes from www.drgas.com

The car belongs to a guy with the name KMOOK on www.camaroz28.com I imagine you could search for him and email him if you wanted to know.

Why would it be any harder to put that on a third gen? There's nothing in the way. It's the most basic of setups. Looks like a 3 yr old could do it. Oh well. Guess I'll see how easy it is when I go to install it.

take a look under your 3rd gen and you get some idea of why its harder. By the time your done running the x - pipe and all theres a good youll ahve to raise the suspention to get over speed bumps, high manhole covers, etc. The ground clearence will be a prob. youll definatly have to deal with. I was considering doing this myself but it looks like the car jsut wouldnt work wiht it w/o some creativity. A 3" pipe wqould probably flow just as well and be much more suited to your car

yeah although that setup looks like it would have hella clearance up on jacks, you have to look and see that that setup is underneath the cross member by like 4 inches, that setup would have absolutely no ground clearance at all. on the other hand my friend is into monte carlos and they make tranny cross members with a 4" gap on each side to run 3" or whatever you want exhaust through the cross member and not lose any clearance. does anybody make something like that for thirdgens?

my friend has a monte with the dual setup and custom cross member but they have more space to play around with then we do.

hmmm... no... ill try to ask my friend, though. mabe he'll swing by this post and see it or something. I dont know his SN, though.
http://www.geocities.com/cfrios/Phil87IROC.html This belongs to a guy that has the hooker lt headers and a mufflex y pipe. That mufflex is 3" on both sides. Look and you will see that he notched out the crosmember under the exhaust. It shouldnt be any harder than running the mufflex pipe. The subframes would be easier to clear on the fourthgens though.
