Hornell Speedglas Utility auto-darkening welding helmet

Just picked one up yesterday, hooked up my MIG, and tried it out- awesome helmet! I can finally see what I'm doing! No more nodding my head down to tilt the standard helmet over my eyes to weld, no more lifting the helmet to inspect my weld- the thing is awesome. I should've bought one years ago!! Shop around on the web, I paid $170 for it- then found it on the web for $125.

One thing cool about this one is that when the helmet is off, it's a shade 6. When you turn it on, the glass lightens to a shade 3. So even if the batteries fail or the sensors die, you'd have shade 6 protection. The Utility helmet I bought was a shade 10- Hornell makes Speedglas 9000 models that are adjustable, but basically the only reason you'd want adjustable is to adapt it for other types of welding. They adjust from 9-13... and for me, I can't see myself going darker than 10- 13 must be absolute blackness! That dark of a shade would be used for very high amperage ARC or MIG or plasma welding/cutting anyway, and I doubt I'll ever be working with stuff that powerful for a car!
