push rod guide holes
I picked up a set of 083 heads. They came without the rocker arms. I've include a picture of the pushrod guide holes. Can you tell if I need self aligning rocker arms or not by just the guide hole? It looks as though the hole will keep the push rod aligned on the rocker arm but then I'am not sure. Thanks in advance!

I think your right, those heads have the holes with the straight sides, so they were designed to guide the pushrods, the pushrods should have very little clearance on those heads, the heads that have large round holes need the self-aligning rokers, according to the Mortec page those heads are listed as follows...
87-up...350..........Gen.I, also used on crate motors, 285 or 300 hp, 64cc
chambers, 72' center manifold bolt
I inclosed a pic of ProTopline Vortec heads that need the selfaligning rockers, you can see the round holes in them.

Those look like they won't need SA rockers.
Put a push rod through the hole; if it fits tight, with no more than .015" or so of clearance, then you need to use regular rockers.

Is it just the lens angle, or are those canted valves?
You cannot use SA rocker on those heads (uless you can find some 3/16" push rods).
Be carefull NOT to drop that head on your toes. Even aluminum will do some damage. I know that some of the aluminum L98 heads in Corvettes used SA rockers and perimeter cover bolts, but your photo seems to show a "backward" iteration of that scheme. Hmmm...
