4.3 Vortec

I was wondering what the feasibility of this project would be, that is swapping a 4.3 Vortec from a Blazer or S-10 into a 1991 V6 Camaro. Any advice is welcome, also i want to keep the manual transmission which one would be best and also does the six speed transmission fit to the 4.3? thanks

i've got a 4.3 v6 in my race car. it'll fit and work but it isn't easy and it isn't a direct bolt in. i had to relocate the lower motor mounts and make a lot of parts and brackets.

ok

i think it would have been easier had you used the v8 motor mounts since it is a 90* v6 like the v8. But how much free space do you have in there?

4.3 v6 is just like a SBC only shorter, i had to move bottom mount aft about 3".

I hope your intent on this swap wasn't to make it easy by using the same motor mounts; the 2.8 and 4.3 are different engine families and you will be changing mounts.

There are lots of years of 4.3L Vortec production so you might want to go with the easier ones; 95-down should be OBD-I instead of OBD-II, that might be easier.
As far as all the wiring, you *might* be able to use the stock stuff to run a 4.3L if everything is simple (i.e. no crank & cam sensor stuff to add) but it's likely that the 4.3L things will need used, hence the 4.3L harness, hence the 4.3L computer, and when you're done, I believe you kick yourself for not just doing an equally difficult LT1 or TPI swap.

The T56 will bolt up to a 4.3L that has the SBC rear block bolt pattern, but you won't be pulling 6th if it's a 94-97 trans. with .50 sixth gear. The 93 boxes with 3.xx or 2.95 first and .62 sixth would be prime for ya. But that's a lotta money for overkill when a T5 would work as well and a V8 T5 should not have durability issues behind a 4.3L....

JagsThatRun.com - buy their TBI / TPI swap book. It is good stuff.

Those 4.3's are pretty good. When i first got my S-10 tahoe, that thing ran like a raped date.
