Tail Light Swap Irritation

Tail Light Swap Irritation
I have an 88 Firebird Formula, and I've never liked the taillights - they're too modern looking. I wanted to get a set of early (82-84) taillights. However, I have discovered a problem. The early taillights have 4 holes for various bulbs. Mine have 6! I am not sure why GM would have added two extra bulbs, or even what they do. Would I be able to get a wiring harness from an earlier car and have it still work with my current electrical setup? I'm sure I sound like an idiot, but I hate wiring. Any advice would be helpful.
Thanks,

The answer to my question is apparently no. The harness for the 6 bulb lights is entirely different from the 4 bulb lights. It extends from the rear of the car all the way to the dash. GM of the 80's - You Suck

If only GM would have anticipated that you're going to replace 1988 model year tail lights with those of an earlier model year. They could have made the harness backward compatible.
Yeah, GM you suck.
Have you considered figuring out what the six bulb socket functions are for (stop/tail, tail only, stop only, turn signals, markers, etc.) and just use the four that you need and leave the bulbs out the remaining two?
