Re: WRC "astro" steering shaft

I was able to get a couple more steering shafts. They go really fast and the supply seems to be diminishing. If you are ready for one let me know and I will send you my PayPal address.

Re: WRC "astro" steering shaft

I'm liking the way these steering shafts look may have to get one of these soon. I have an s10 box in my car and have adjusted it and changed the rag joint and still the steering feels loose.

Re: WRC "astro" steering shaft

there are lots of other pivot points that can cause the looseness too. idler arm, centerlinke, and rod ends all have wear points. however, i have reports of guys that had all brand new components (TGO member InfernalVortex is one) and still had issues, and my shaft basically cured it.

i do have just a couple left. they're going VERY fast this weekend, and as i said, the supply in the immediate area seems to be drying up. i will be expanding my search radius on my next outing.

If you haven't bought one yet. Then you need too. Best parts I have bought off the board. Just got it today time to finish up the install

Re: WRC "astro" steering shaft

I got mine Monday and put it on yesterday. The steering shaft looked really nice and the shipping was quick. Well worth the $75. It was a bit difficult to get it to slide on the splines, but I suspect that is the installers fault.

Thanks!

Re: WRC "astro" steering shaft

I have found that even though i take the time to spread the yokes out to ease installation, that some are just tight. a few well placed whacks with a deadblow will seat it easily. Glad it made it there!

Re: WRC "astro" steering shaft

Got mine installed and the difference is night and day. No more slop and constant correction to keep from wandering all over the road. Gave me the clearance I wanted from my headers and really opened up that side of the bay. My factory hog-leg shaft was pretty worn and I took the opportunity to adjust the steering box to factory specs and added energy suspension sway bar bushings so I'm not sure everyone would get the same dramatic improvement. I can feel the road texture now but I like it. I guess it's a matter of taste.

Re: WRC "astro" steering shaft

So I understand that these shafts "slide" in and out, is there a measurement of full collapsed and extended to "useable" length ? Wondering if I can use one on my 1978 Z28 project ... it now has a IROC-Z XH steering box so I'm not worried about the connection at the box end .... I need to check the column end for compatibility.

Are you clocking these shafts and re welding ?

Sorry for all the q's .... I'd just love to get one of these to work in my 2nd gen !

the thirdgen uses a 1" DD type column output. last i knew, the 2nd gen used a splined output thus this will not work in that application. I also believe it will be a little on the short side.

yes they're reclocked AND welded to provide years of reliable performance.

Yep got the column and steering shaft out today, and the lower column is in fact a splined output ... so now I'm wondering if a lower "leg" could be used to eliminate the rag joint ? got any length measurements of the lower piece overall, and the "D" portion ?

Re: WRC "astro" steering shaft

from the research i've done, the steering shaft from 2nd gen fbodies is similar or the same as the ones for the 68-72 chevelles. i am building a 71 chevelle as a cruiser. i did the jeep grand cherokee steering BOX which uses the same metric splines that the thirdgen fbodies use, so if this works, it would benefit that car as well. the lower half measures 9.75" overall and uses the same size shaft as the chevelle, however the chevelle lower portion is 10.5" so without taking it apart, i'm not convinced it will work for you.
